BWW Reviews: WORDS BY IRA GERSHWIN: A Happy Night at the TheaterBWW Reviews: WORDS BY IRA GERSHWIN: A Happy Night at the Theater
by Ellen Dostal - Apr 27, 2015

Two famous brothers. One historic collaboration. Gershwin. Theirs was a name that would forever represent the early twentieth century music of the Jazz Age by capturing the heart and soul of the American people. Music drove George, the charismatic life-of-the-Party musician who created sophisticated compositions like An American in Paris and Rhapsody in Blue, while Ira, the older and quieter of the two, was happier in the company of words. Together they created a prolific body of work that includes some of the most beloved standards today like 'Fascinating Rhythm,' 'Let's Call the Whole Thing Off,' and 'Love is Here to Stay.' InDepth InterView: Marc Kudisch - An Inside Look At HAND TO GODInDepth InterView: Marc Kudisch - An Inside Look At HAND TO GOD
by Pat Cerasaro - Apr 27, 2015

Today we are presenting a special Inside Look of an upcoming InDepth InterView with acclaimed stage and screen star Marc Kudisch all about the searing and provocative new Broadway play HAND TO GOD and his many recent endeavors. In the complete conversation, Kudisch and I analyze all aspects of his brand new Broadway hit HAND TO GOD and parse the finer points of the religion-themed comedy as well as touch on his thoughts on the daring, thought-provoking and edgy Robert Askins play, with today's preview touching on many of the themes of the piece, the importance of the play's message to a modern audience, an exhaustive analysis of the character dynamics that exist in this world and what initially drew Kudisch to the idiosyncratic project in the first place, as well as how it has changed throughout the course of its run Off-Off-Broadway to Off-Broadway to Broadway. Additionally, in the full chat, Kudisch and I look back at some of his most notable roles, as well, ranging from THE WILD Party to 9-TO-5 to his recent Shakespeare turn opposite Paul Giamatti in HAMLET and stint on Netflix's hit drama series HOUSE OF CARDS as well as much more. BWW Reviews: THE GRADUATE Smartly Staged by The City TheatreBWW Reviews: THE GRADUATE Smartly Staged by The City Theatre
by Frank Benge - Apr 27, 2015

THE GRADUATE is an iconic American film that was a touchstone for an entire generation. It's a coming of age story about Benjamin Braddock's attempt to find his place in the adult world of the sixties. Anyone staging it lives in the shadow of the 1967 film and those indelible images and sounds. To be honest, I went in thinking that I would be hard pressed to think of a cinema piece that cried out less for a stage adaptation than this particular story. However, personally being long removed from both Charles Webb's 1963 novel and the film by Mike Nichols, I found that this piece actually stands on its own. It is quite different from both the novel and the film; but is, in and of itself, an entertaining evening. (more...)
