by BWW News Desk - Jul 6, 2014

Fratellanza has rewritten The Mute Quire and, as an international ensemble from America, China and Italy, has been chosen to perform it at the Galway and Macau Fringe Festivals. The baffling but true events surrounding the printing of Shakespeare's First Folio, are told in afreewheeling story of a blind printer, his illiterate apprentice, and a buffoonish actor from the King's Men. BWW Reviews: Deliriously Funny BUYER & CELLAR Captivates Mark Taper Audiences
by Don Grigware - Jul 15, 2014

To set the record straight, actor Michael Urie introduces Buyer & Cellar by stating quite emphatically that what we are about to see is a fiction. He then holds up a copy of Barbra Streisand's book My Passion for Design published in 2010. In it Streisand describes her dream house. This book fed playwright Jonathan Tolin's imagination to create a fictitious play about a mall in the cellar of the icon's home. Starring Urie as an out-of-work LA actor who takes a job running the stores in the mall and focusing on his dream relationship with his new boss, Buyer & Cellar is replete with deliriously campy humor and takes a moment or two to show - if indeed it were possible - the very personal side of the iconic superstar. Streisand fans, take note: the award-winning off-Broadway One-Man Show plays at the Mark Taper Forum through August 17 only! (more...)

by Jay Irwin - Jul 11, 2014

I always get a little worried about the one man, autobiographical shows. All too often they can become self-indulgent therapy sessions as the performer delves into a life that we may or may not care about. Luckily this is not the case with 'Hands Solo: Pianoman' currently playing at ACT as Victor Janusz offers up a more self-reflective rather than self-indulgent journey mixed with some wonderfully sweet and jazzy tunes from he and his piano.
