Kristiana Rae Colón Wins 2014 Dionysos Cup

Polarity Ensemble Theatre will award the 2014 Dionysos Cup to Chicago playwright Kristiana Rae Colon for her new play OCTAGON, which is set in the world of slam poetry competitions. The play was selected as one of four finalist plays to be developed in Polarity's annual Dionysos Cup Festival of New Plays. Over seventy plays by Chicago-area playwrights were submitted to the festival. Finalist plays were selected by committee and the winning play voted upon by audience members and Polarity staff. OCTAGON was also recently awarded the Arizona Latino Playwrights Award that carries a prize of $1000. (more...)

Gloucester Stage Company's 35th Anniversary Season continues with Amy Herzog's funny and moving 4000 Miles from July 31 through August 17 at the Gorton Theatre, 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. Winner of the 2012 Obie Award for Best New American Play and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama Finalist, Amy Herzog's 4000 Miles looks at how two outsiders find their way in today's world. After suffering a major loss while he was on a cross-country bike trip, 21 year-old Leo seeks solace from his feisty 91 year-old grandmother Vera in her West Village apartment in New York City. Over the course of a single month, these unlikely roommates infuriate, bewilder, and ultimately reach each other. Directed by Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Eric C. Engel, the production features GSC favorite and Rockport resident Nancy E. Carroll as Vera and Rockport native Tom Rash as Vera's grandson Leo. The reminder of the cast features Sarah Oakes Muirhead, last seen at GSC in 2013's award winning Spring Awakening and GSC newcomer Samantha Ma. (more...)

There is no other theatre that is more perfect for a production of VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE than Bucks County Playhouse. This show takes place in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which is also where the playwright Christopher Durang lives. So not only does this show entertain audiences, but it is easy for the audience to visualize the setting that Durang envisioned because they are sitting in the midst of Bucks County. VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE is a smart play, as well as has a cast that is charming. (more...)

For our 48th Kritzerland show we're proud to present a salute to some incredible female lyricists of the musical theatre, mostly Carolyn Leigh, the brilliant lyricist of such Broadway shows as Little Me, Wildcat, Peter Pan and others, as well as such classic pop songs as 'Witchcraft' and 'The Best Is Yet to Come,' as well as other great female lyricists like Lynn Ahrens (Once on this Island, Ragtime, Seussical), Carol Hall (The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas), Marsha Norman (The Secret Garden), Gretchen Cryer (I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road), Fran Landesman (The Nervous Set, 'Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most'), Amanda McBroom ('The Rose', Heartbeats) and Carole Bayer Sager (They're Playing Our Song). Kritzerland's Bruce Kimmel has recorded many of the lyricists above and has chosen the usual Kritzerland colorful and eclectic program, a mix of the well- known and the unknown.
