More Than 50 Actors Set to Participate in The Blank Theatre's 25th Anniversary

More than 50 actors have been set to participate in The Blank Theatre's 25th Anniversary Young Playwrights Festival, including Michael Grant Terry (Bones, NCIS, Grimm, CSI), Janina Gavankar (The Mysteries of Laura, The Vampire Diaries, Grey's Anatomy), Lenny Jacobson (Nurse Jackie, Frequency, Big Time in Hollywood, FL), and Jennifer Stone (Wizards of Waverly Place). Twelve winning plays by young playwrights aged 17, 18, and 19 from six different states will be presented during this year's festival at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood, running from June 1-25. BWW Review: Fantastic.Z's Short Play Series FAMILY Modern and Sweet

Keeping it brief, since the show only runs through this Saturday, LGBTQ theater group Fantastic.Z has a series of short plays currently performing at The Eclectic Theater called 'Family'. The six-play series has a family motif, each story showcasing modern examples of what it means to be a unit in the modern era. In a more deductive sense, this new works micro-festival highlights specifically pain within the family unit. Half of the shows work through that pain less successfully with staged therapy (moping, finger-pointing, and yelling), and the other half of the show work through that pain more successfully with comedy. After collaborating with David Rabe on their acclaimed revival of In the Boom Boom Room last month, Chain Theatre is turning its focus on developing a new play. Singin' All Night tells the story of an autistic African American teenager who has been accused of a horrific crime. Two young attorneys are broke, desperate and take his impossible case. But everything changes when they realize he can communicate through music. Join us for the WORLD PREMIERE reading/ workshop presentation of Singin' All Night written by Artistic Director Kirk Gostkowski. Donmar Warehouse Announces 2017 Autumn Programme

The Donmar Warehouse announces today two new plays for the 2017 autumn period.  Internationally-acclaimed theatre artist, Yael Farber, makes her Donmar debut directing David Harrower's haunting Knives in Hens with full casting that includes Christian Cook, Judith Roddy and Matt Ryan.  This will be the play's first major London revival since its premiere in 1995, when it instantly established Harrower as one of the UK's leading playwrights.  (more...)

KCRW and the Annenberg Foundation are pleased to announce the lineup for the 2017 SOUND IN FOCUS series -- three, free, all-ages concerts held at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City.   The series kicks-off on Saturday, July 15 with a headlining performance from Grammy-winning R&B artist Miguel, an opening set by Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Garzon-Montano, and DJ sets by Stretch Armstrong. The evening will be hosted by KCRW's Anthony Valadez.
