From its stunning Broadway premiere in 1968, Hair defined the "rock musical," exuberantly celebrating the hippie counterculture, anti-war movement and sexual revolution of the 1960s with a rainbow score of hits - including "Aquarius," "Good Morning Starshine," and "Easy to be Hard" - that have become ingrained in pop culture. Let down your long, beautiful hair, pull out the tie-dye and celebrate this groundbreaking American journey as we "Let the Sunshine In!"

HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot, and tells the story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time. The 2009 revival, directed by Diane Paulus, won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. The Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle also honored the production with their 2009 award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical.

galerie102 Presents Allie Pohl's IDEAL WOMANgalerie102 Presents Allie Pohl's IDEAL WOMAN
by BWW News Desk - Mar 25, 2015

galerie102 presents selections fromAllie Pohl's Ideal Woman series, which question society's obsession and commercial quest for perfection—taking on the ultimate purveyor of commercial femininity: Barbie. Barbie's torso becomes the touchstone of a greater reevaluation of societal constructs of perfection: unwanted Hair, impossible body standards, and what it means to be an 'ideal' woman. At stake are deeply imbedded cultural values dictated to women on a daily basis—mostly through the media barrage—as to what one must attain and maintain to be an 'Ideal Woman.' Pohl's show has received critical acclaim from Claudia Pardo: 'Chutzpah is often underrated, and Pohl has it. [She] leverages a very serious matter: society's enduring perpetuation of the feminine from an unrealistic point of view, with work that is playful and accessible. Pohl's work is refreshingly bold in an “I don't care what you think” manner, but it also has a very sweet component, which makes it almost irresistible.' (more...)

One of the major issues in watching a historidrama is figuring out what is real, what is fiction, and what is fantasy. This is especially the case in Lucas Hnath's ISAAC'S EYE, now on stage at convergence-continuum. Actors/singers Eddie and Anthony Edwards, identical twins originally from Burbank, Ca, have been doing singing impressions for the last 30 years. In their renowned Vegas-style show entitled Twintastic, which tours much of the east coast and Canada, Anthony creates mostly male celebrities and Eddie, the females. Eddie's most popular divas are Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand and Cher. In their new show for 2015, currently onstage at the El Portal in NoHo through March 29 only, he does not do Midler, but adds Celine Dion to his regular roster of Barbra and Cher. These vocal impressions, apart from incorporating incredible wigs, makeup and costumes, employ Eddie's and Anthony's actual voices - that's right, there is no lip-syncing, they are doing their own singing... and their vocals... are amazingly precise and on.target.
