BWW Reviews: ISF's LES MISERABLES Is Full Of Les Talent Merveilleux
by Teresa Rodrick - Jul 14, 2014

LES MIS(ERABLE) is a musical that starts with a powerful song by the prisoners. The way that the director, Victoria Bussert began the production gave the impression that the story that you were about to hear was a remembrance of Jean Valjean's life. I think when that happens, sometimes you pay more attention so you won't miss something important. (more...)

BWW Recaps: AGATHA CHRISTIE'S POIROT: DEAD MAN'S FOLLY Wickedly Delivers
by Elizabeth Peterson-Vita - Aug 5, 2014

While not accompanied by his mainstay companions of many episodes (Capt. Hastings, Inspector Japp, Miss Lemon), this plot intertwines Poirot's likewise eccentric and charmingly maddening friend, crime writer Ariadne Oliver (Zoe Wanamaker). They inhabit a complex plot beset by double meanings and double identities, aided by strong production values including superb period costumes and a fabulous location: Christie's own Greenway Estate. Viewers familiar with Christie plot elements and ruses will probably catch on quickly to suspicious behaviors that scream: 'look at me, I'm a clue', but they are likely to catch novices unawares. Identifying the villain is probably easier than identifying the Motive here, and folly, whether of character or architecture, is an important theme. SPOILER ALERT: Eyes should be fixed on Sir George Stubbs (Sean Pertwee), whose hail-fellow-well-met demeanor is a thin veneer over a core of wickedness. (more...)

BWW Reviews: SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE Is Smokin' at Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theatre
by Don Grigware - Aug 4, 2014

Akin to a revue, Smokey Joe's Cafe is made up of songs, songs, and more songs without a single word of dialogue. Like the final tune says 'That Is Rock & Roll'; it's the music of Leiber and Stoller who gave us some of the biggest hits of the 50s like 'Hound Dog', 'Love Potion # 9' and 'Jailhouse Rock'. In a lively revival at Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theatre, the smoke, the cafe and its music are ecstatically displayed by a cast of 9 thrilling vocalists. (more...)
