Signature Theatre has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere production of Cake Off, a new musical by Sheri Wilner (Kingdom City), Julia Jordan (Murder Ballad) and Adam Gwon (Signature's The Boy Detective Fails). Directed by Signature's Director of New Works Joe Calarco (Signature's Gypsy, Shakespeare's R&J) this hilarious new musical is a battle-of-the-sexes set at the 50th Annual Millberry Cake-Off competition. George Street Playhouse is proud to host "Be Unstoppable: A Celebration of Healthy Kids in the Arts" as part of the New Brunswick Cultural Center's Hub City Sounds Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The free event, which also serves as the official "kick-off" of a collaboration between The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and George Street Playhouse for Austin the Unstoppable, will feature a performance by GSP's Educational Touring Theatre of Austin on the Playhouse's Mainstage at 10:30 a.m.  The day also includes interactive activities, a healthy lunch and an afternoon performance by American Repertory Ballet dancers. Based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story of the same name, the show tells the story of 18 year old Bernice Harvey's journey from socially awkward to the belle of the country club- and back again. General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler today announced the launch of the first-ever Resident Artists Program for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City to be led by Vinson Cole, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance faculty member and one of the leading artists of his generation.  The program will begin with auditions in December and will include four singers and one pianist for the initial class of the 2016-17 season.  (more...)
