Baseball players doing pirouettes is not a typical pregame warm-up many major leaguers have, but that certainly doesn't stop the cast of Pittsburgh CLO's Damn Yankees from dancing their shoes off from left field to right, or rather, stage left to right. With bats in hand and led by a headstrong female reporter, the men of the Washington Senators deliver a power-packed, energized dance routine in 'Shoeless Joe' that reflects the charisma and passion displayed throughout the entire show. The Gateway's exciting Long Island premiere of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert went off without a hitch this past weekend at The Patchogue Theatre. Running through August 6th, I really can't stress enough that this musical is incredibly enjoyable and the cast, directed by David Ruttura, is top-notch. There were some changes from the 2011 Broadway production, but your big, glittery heart will definitely be smiling as you leave the theatre. (more...)

The soft-spoken man sitting opposite me thoughtfully answers my question about the universality of the musical theatre piece in which he stars, Fiddler on the Roof. There is a gentle, heartfelt quality to all his comments, and one understands immediately why Bill Nolte makes an ideal Tevye. The Broadway actor, singer, and visual artist makes his Maine State Music Theatre debut on July 20 in a part he has played twice before, and he waxes eloquent about the experience in Maine and his reunion with director/choreographer Gary John LaRosa and many of the veteran cast members.
