Paris Fringe Announces Full Schedule, Thru May 29

The first edition of Paris Fringe, a festival of international theatre in English, takes place from Monday, May 23 to Sunday, May 29, 2016 in Paris, France. The festival features both international work and France-based companies, and artists are travelling to Paris for the festival from Belgium, Canada, the UK and the USA. English is the main language for performances and other events. The programme includes dramatic plays, stand-up comedy, musicals, immersive theatre, improvisation and solo shows, representing a wide range of theatrical styles, with a focus on innovative approaches to theatre and an emphasis on contemporary themes. Cantori New York to Stage U.S. Premiere of Dame Ethel Smyth's THE PRISON

On May 14 & 15, Cantori New York, an award winning chamber choir celebrating its 31st season, will perform the U.S. Premiere of 'The Prison', written in 1930 by feminist composer Dame Ethel Smyth. Mark Shapiro, Artistic Director, will conduct the piece. A 'vocal symphony' in one act for choir, soloists, piano and bugle, with libretto by H.B. Brewster, 'The Prison' is a unique and complex philosophical drama - a dialogue between a man and his soul. The program will also include Brahms' Marienlieder song cycle. (more...)

One of the hidden elements entwined in Noel Coward's wry play Fallen Angels becomes the French love song 'Memes les Anges'--which translates the first line to: 'Even the angels succumb to love.' On stage in the beautiful Cabot Theatre,  Milwaukee Chamber Theatre's  (MCT) delightful production of Coward's 1925 play, written when he was in his 20's, use this love song's words combined with the lyrics to Cole Porter's 'Let's Misbehave' to underpin the deceptive meaning of the scintillating humor in Coward's words.  (more...)
