BWW Exclusive: Patrick Hinds Gets a Follow Up with Lin-Manuel Miranda 11 Years LaterBWW Exclusive: Patrick Hinds Gets a Follow Up with Lin-Manuel Miranda 11 Years Later
by BWW Features - Oct 7, 2014

I first met the Genius Lin-Manuel Miranda (I will never stop calling him that) back in 2003 when I was trying to get some traction as a freelance writer. My friend Tommy Kail asked me if I wanted to interview a young writer/composer he was working with on a new hip hop musical called IN THE HEIGHTS. It was just a one-act being workshopped in the basement theater of the Drama Bookshop, but the show's main character was gay (obviously a lot has changed over the years) and he thought that would interest me. It did, so we set up an interview. (more...)

BWW Reviews: World Premiere of STONE SOUP is a Delicious, Family Friendly TreatBWW Reviews: World Premiere of STONE SOUP is a Delicious, Family Friendly Treat
by Jeff Davis - Aug 1, 2014

SummerStock Austin has a long tradition of producing one musical specifically written for the under 13 set every year. I was introduced to this tradition back in 2012 when I went to a performance of SummerStock Austin's production of A Year with Frog and Toad. As a childless twenty-something guy, I was the only adult in the audience who was unaccompanied by a kid. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the show and praised its ability to please all audience members, regardless of age. The next year, I attended The Bremen Town Musicians, and was pleased to see that, once again, the show spoke to adults and children. It's no surprise then, that history's repeating itself with SummerStock Austin's production of Stone Soup. In its world premiere production, Stone Soup pleases kids and adults alike and easily entertains from beginning to end. (more...)
