The classic musical On The Town is probably the perfect theatrical offering - thanks to Bellport's Gateway Playhouse- during the 4th Of July festivities. Instead of an overture, the band plays the Star Spangled Banner and the story follows three sailors from the US Navy on a one day shore leave. Muny Announces Cast Change for A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM

 The Muny announced today Jeffrey Schecter will star as Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the third production of its 99th season, which plays July 5-11. This year, the Bowl's annual staged musical visits the 2001 international phenomenon about a young woman's plot to uncover the identity of her father among three of her mother's former loves, all of whom are invited to her wedding on a Greek island. But which man turns out to be her father and walks her down the aisle? Filled with ABBA's timeless songs, including 'Dancing Queen' and 'Voulez Vous,' get ready to have the time of your life July 28-29-30 seeing MAMMA MIA! at the Hollywood Bowl, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall and conducted by David Holcenberg. Kathleen Marshall is one of Broadway's most celebrated artists. Honored numerous times for her work on stage and screen, she has won three Tony Awards (with six more nominations) and two Drama Desk Awards (four additional nominations). Marshall has also been nominated for both an Olivier and an Emmy. The MAMA MIA! production at the Hollywood Bowl marks her Los Angeles debut as a director/choreographer, and I recently was fortunate to speak with her, and stars Corbin Bleu and Lea DeLaria, about their excitement being involved in the musical extravaganza. Legally Blonde, the third mainstage production from The LEXington Theatre Company, opened last night, and features original choreography by Jerry Mitchell, recreated and adapted by Brooke Engen (Gypsy, Hairspray) and Tiffany Engen (Legally Blonde), as well as original Broadway cast members Kevin Pariseau and Chico the Chihuahua. It is great to see an artist of Kay Cole's caliber perform her very first solo cabaret at a later stage of life. This woman has done TV, film, Broadway, national tours; she has directed both musicals and plays, choreographed...and now has released Souvenir, her very first solo CD and achieved a glorious cabaret debut at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal on Sunday July 16. The show also called Souvenir, which ran under an hour, was directed by Cole's long-time friend the wonderful Bruce Kimmel and musically directed by the fabulous John Boswell, who accompanied her on the piano throughout. Saint Michael's Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Chuck Tobin today announced the July 19 opening of the Off-Broadway hit Murder for Two at Saint Michael's Playhouse. Murder for Two features book and music by Joe Kinosian, book and lyrics by Kellen Blair and stars Noel Carey and Jeremiah Ginn, both from Murder for Two's national tour.
