​​​​​​​Steppenwolf Theatre Company today mourns the loss of longtime ensemble member, actor, director and adaptor Frank Galati, who died Monday evening in Florida at the age of 79. Galati, who joined the Steppenwolf ensemble in 1985, won two Tony Awards in 1990 for his adaptation and direction of Steppenwolf's pivotal production of The Grapes of Wrath on Broadway.

While the series' recurring cast includes Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, and more, guest stars have included Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, Joanna Gleason, Adrienne Warren, Jinkx Monsoon, Norm Lewis, Norbert Leo Butz, and more. In this offbeat hit musical, narrated through doo-wop ditties by a trio of neighborhood girls, meek florist Seymour finds himself catapulted into instant celebrity when he cultivates an otherworldly showstopper, a highly unusual plant. The Colored Museum a play with music was written by George C. Wolfe. The play premiered at the Crossroads Theatre in 1986 and was directed by L. Kenneth Richardson. Wolfe’s work is the focus of 11 individual sketches or “exhibits” and through these revues, recounts satirical and prominent themes and people throughout African-American History and Culture. As the second show in their 2022/2023 “This is America” Season, American Stage planned to stage this show as a way to redefine our ideas of what it means to be African American in Contemporary America. George C. Wolfe’s review show was the winner of the 1988 NAACP Image Award.

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is set to open its Autumn season with television and stage actor Sally Reid (Scot Squad, BBC Scotland) starring in a brand-new revival of the much-loved award-winning comedy Shirley Valentine, Willy Russell's (Blood Brothers and Educating Rita) heart-warming story about a middle-aged, working-class Liverpool housewife whose life is transformed after a holiday in Greece.

Kids in the Rotunda, Madison's favorite family-friendly Saturday arts performance series, kicks off its 2022/23 season on Overture Center's Rotunda stage next month, starting with a returning favorite, Black Star Drum Line, on Saturday, Oct. 1.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley announced its 52nd season, featuring six plays and musicals to be presented November 2022 through August 2023. Three of the season's productions will be mounted at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, and three will be staged at Palo Alto's Lucie Stern Theatre. A brand new production of Masquerade – a play telling a powerful and emotional tale set in an iconic Liverpool gay club in the 1980s – is coming to the city’s Epstein Theatre this Autumn.

New York Theatre Review calls it a “valentine to the heart and soul of the American suburbs.” There will be a Preview performance 8 p.m., Thursday, April 28. Press opening is 8 p.m., Friday, April 29. Performances run through May 29.  

The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts announced that the North American tour of Lincoln Center Theater’s critically acclaimed production of Lerner & Loewe’s MY FAIR LADY is coming as a part of its 2021/2022 Kravis On Broadway season.  Directed by Bartlett Sher, the North American tour will play the Kravis Center from April 19 – 24.

When I heard the montage of 80s music blaring and saw the beautiful African-American art donning the Arkansas Repertory Theatre lobby, I knew SCHOOL GIRLS; OR THE AFRICAN MEAN GIRLS PLAY by Jocelyn Bioh, which is playing through March 20, was going to be awesome (80s slang intended)! Set in Ghana at the Aburi Girls' boarding school in 1986, the play touches on social nerves like familial status, school hierarchy, and color of the skin. Directed by Sha Cage, this group of storytellers told a tale that still rings true today.

Following the European premiere of Steve which launched the exciting new Covent Garden venue, Seven Dials Playhouse will now present ground-breaking plays Diary of a Somebody and FOXES for the remainder of their Spring 2022 season.

Russian-set musicals figure highly in this actor's nontraditional path to the tour stage. ANASTASIA, the new Broadway musical, and its Dowager Empress are on the Orpheum's stage till Dec. 19.
