Shakespeare in the Streets Stages New WINTER'S TALE Adaptation, Now thru 9/21

Shopkeepers and artists are just a few of the Grove and Forest Park Southeast residents who will appear alongside professional actors in a play artfully adapted from William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, as part of the second annual, wildly popular, Shakespeare in the Streets event, it was announced today by Shakespeare Festival St. Louis Executive Director Rick Dildine. The event is scheduled today through Saturday, Sept. 19-21. (more...)

Shakespeare in the Streets to Open 9/19 in the Grove

A St. Louis administrative law judge, a teacher, a drag performer, and numerous neighborhood children will be performing alongside professional actors this Thursday through Saturday (Sept. 19-21) in Old Hearts Fresh, a one-hour free play adapted from William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. The play is part of the Shakespeare in the Streets event and will be performed each night at 8 p.m. in the Grove (4226 Manchester Avenue, between Tower Grove and South Boyle avenues). (more...)

Claire will be familiar to Sheffield audiences having appeared in numerous productions including The Daughter-in-Law, Company, The Pride, Don Carlos, Much Ado About Nothing, Mean Tears - as part of The Peter Gill Season, Richard III and The Tempest. 2013 Globe Gala Raises Over $1 Million for Artistic/Education Programs

The Old Globe's 2013 Gala, "A Magical Evening," netted more than $1 million for the theater's artistic and educational activities. Co-chaired by Nina Doede and Sheryl White, the black tie event was held on Saturday, Sept. 21 on the Globe's historic campus in Balboa Park. Lead underwriters for the evening wereAudrey S. Geisel and Darlene Marcos Shiley. Other major donors included Debra Turner and Conrad Prebys, along with Sheryl and Harvey White, Nina and Robert Doede, Vicki and Carl Zeiger, Mary Beth Adderley, Pam Wagner, Valerie and Harry Cooper, Gillian and Tony Thornley, Pam Farr, Elaine and Dave Darwin, Joan and Irwin Jacobs and Laurie Mitchell and Brent Woods, with many other guests making generous gifts. Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present a new production of Bertolt Brecht's THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE featuring Christopher Lloyd (Azdak), directed by Brian Kulick (who directed Brecht's Galileo last season), and featuring new music by Tony Award-winning singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE will begin performances Friday, May 3 at CSC (136 East 13th Street) for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 9. The official opening is Today, May 30. Happy Birthday, Jesse L. Martin! Martin is best known for originating the role of Tom Collins in the Broadway theatrical production of Rent, and for his portrayal of NYPD Detective Ed Green on the NBC drama television series Law & Order. He made his Broadway debut in Timon of Athens, and then performed in The Government Inspector with Lainie Kazan. In 2010, Martin returned to the stage for one of his biggest theater commitments since Law & Order performing in the productions of The Merchant of Venice and The Winter's Tale as a part of The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. He played the roles of Gratiano and King Polixenes, respectively. The Merchant of Venice later transferred to Broadway to the Broadhurst Theater for a limited engagement, during which time Martin reprised his role as Gratiano. (more...)

It is one of the most wondrous moments in all of Shakespeare's plays; the moment near the end of The Winter's Tale when the statue of Hermione comes to life. Whether it is magic, divine intervention, or merely the resolution of a well-concealed plot, it doesn't matter. IYOM, THE WINTER'S TALE and More Set for WorkShop Theater's 20th Anniversary Season

WorkShop Theater Company, and Artistic Director Scott C. Sickles, has announced its 20th season, celebrating its diverse history. WorkShop's Main Stage Season begins in September with the world premiere of Lou-Lou Igbokwe's Iyom; November marks the return of Philip Hall's highly acclaimed musical adaptation of Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi; and the spring will bring director Ryan Lee's vision of Shakespeare's challenging classic, The Winter's Tale. In addition to developing new plays and reviving classics, WorkShop has broadened its scope in the past few years by fostering new short plays, musicals, and children's theater. This fall, WorkShop welcomes a new Managing Director, Joseph Giardina, who is also an arts education consultant for the New York City Department of Education's (NYCDOE) Office of the Arts and Special Projects.
