The new Broadway production of D.L. Coburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, The Gin Game, starring Tony Award winners James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson, begins previews tonight, September 23. Opening night will be on Wednesday, October 14 at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue).
Creative Cauldron will open its 2015-?16 season with The World Goes 'Round, a musical revue of works by John Kander and Fred Ebb, one of the most prolific and acclaimed Broadway musical collaborators of all time. The production is directed by Matt Conner and choreographed by Kara-?Tameika Watkins. "Audiences will be dazzled by the brilliance of Kander and Ebb," stated Conner. "The songs in this wonderful revue celebrate the resilience of the human heart on a revolving planet filled with love, pain, success and failure." Previews begin October 1st and the show continues at ArtSpace Falls Church (410 South Maple Avenue) through October 25th. Civic Theatre of Allentown continues its tradition of performing in-concert productions of storied musicals, when it produces Stephen Sondheim's 'Follies' in concert in two special benefit performances, at 7:30 pm tonight, June 26 and tomorrow, June 27 at Civic's historic 19th Street Theatre.
For the 24th consecutive year, Segerstrom Center for the Arts will offer its Summer at the Center [SATC] program for Orange County at risk youths. It will be held July 20 - August 1. A nationally recognized community service program created by the Center, Summer at the Center provides high-risk and underserved youths with opportunities to develop trust and confidence, self-esteem and positive attitudes and approaches to life challenges through the performing arts. It is a rigorous two-week musical theater program of classes taught by professional teaching artists held in a safe and nurturing environment. The results of their efforts can be experienced when the students perform a Broadway revue-style show in the Center's Samueli Theater on Saturday, August 1 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. These performances are free and open to the public; no reservations are required.
