They're Going Back to the Woods! Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine Set for INTO THE WOODS Reunion at Segerstrom Center

Audiences have an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to journey back into the woods and American musical theater history with the creators and original Broadway cast of the award-winning musical Into the Woods on Sunday, November 9 at 6 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall. Part conversation, part musical selections, this one-night-only Reunion celebration is being written and produced by Eileen Roberts in association with Segerstrom Center for the Arts. It features special guests composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim and author and director James Lapine, along with original Broadway cast members Bernadette Peters (The Witch), Joanna Gleason (The Baker's Wife), Chip Zien (The Baker), Robert Westenberg (Cinderella's Prince and Wolf), Kim Crosby (Cinderella), Danielle Ferland (Little Red Riding Hood) and Ben Wright (Jack). URBAN MOMFARE Extends Run in 2014 FringeNYC Encore Series, 9/21-28

Urban Momfare has been selected to extend its run at the FringeNYC Encore Series after a critically acclaimed run at the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival in August. Book by Pamela Weiler Grayson and Alice Jankell, music and lyrics by Pamela Weiler Grayson, directed by Alice Jankell and musical direction by Clare Cooper. Urban Momfare is being produced by Emerging Artists Theatre Company (EAT). A workshop performance of the musical was previously presented at EAT's New Work Series in March of 2013. (more...)

Today in 2011, Follies opened at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 152 performances. Follies is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Goldman. The story concerns a Reunion in a crumbling Broadway theatre, scheduled for demolition, of the past performers of the 'Weismann's Follies,' a musical revue (based on the Ziegfeld Follies), that played in that theatre between the World Wars. The musical was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won seven. The piece has enjoyed a number of major revivals, and several of its songs have become standards, including 'Broadway Baby', 'I'm Still Here', 'Too Many Mornings', 'Could I Leave You?', and 'Losing My Mind'. BWW Interview: Tony Nominee Daniel Jenkins Discusses Return as Huck Finn in 54 SINGS BIG RIVER
