It was announced today that two-time Olivier Award nominee Scarlett Strallen will take over the role of 'Sibella' in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, which won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Musical, beginning Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Her predecessor Lisa O'Hare exits the production on February 8, 2015 after originating the role at Hartford Stage, then in San Diego at The Old Globe, and finally on Broadway at The Walter Kerr Theatre. N. Bethesda, Md. (January 23, 2015) —The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) celebrates its 10thanniversary as a founding partner and resident orchestra at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Md. with a concert and pre-concert gala event on Thursday, February 5, 2015, 10 years to the day after the venue's opening concert that featured legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma, then-Music Director Yuri Temirkanov and the BSO. The Music Center at Strathmore serves as the BSO's second home, where it hosts 46 concerts annually for more than 60,000 patrons, making the BSO the only orchestra in the nation that performs year-round in two major metropolitan markets. The inaugural gala at Strathmore will benefit the BSO's growing education and community outreach efforts in Montgomery County Public Schools. (more...)

The audience for the Jan. 21 premiere of THE GREAT ONE looked decidedly different than most of the opening night spectators at the Short North Stage. About 40 percent of the viewers for the one-act musical, written by Scott Hunt and J.J. As the days dwindled down to a precious few in 2014, a few cabaret goers and performers in what is affectionately but also self-mockingly called the “cabaret community” would sidle up and ask if I was planning my annual end-of-the year “Best Of” column, similar to the “Top 20 Bests and Favorites” piece over the first half of the year I posted back in early July. I would respond in the negative with very reasonable and believable excuses, but the truth is I didn't want to reveal my “Bests” of the year until the voting for the 2014 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Awards had ended. There's enough baggage and backstage whispering that comes with administering the BWW Awards, so I wasn't about to publish any opinions that might influence the vote while it was in process. Bookended by popular Beethoven works and featuring superstar guest artists like violinist Midori, and pianists André Watts and Conrad Tao, Maestro St.Clair's season includes repertoire by popular composers including Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Dvorák, Gershwin, Vivaldi and more.
