Violinist Marianne Martinoli Wins BSO Young Artist Competition

The Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra has announced the 2013 winner of the BSO's 2013 Young Artist Competion - MariAnne Martinoli, violin, age 15 from Monroe. Pianist Benjamin Salman of Seattle was awarded second place for his performance of the first movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, "Emperor." The judges also announced two Honorable Mentions given to pianists Mya King, from Silverdale, for her performance of Albeniz' Concierto Fantastico, mvt 3, Allegro, and to Michael Lee, from Issaquah, for his performance of Liszt's Totentanz.

Ms. Martinoli will perform the Julius Conus Concerto for Violin in E minor in the final concerts of the BSO's 40th Anniversary Season on Friday, May 31 and Sunday, June 2. In addition to Ms. Martinoli's performance the BSO will feature works by Weber, Barber, Kroening, and Hindemith including the latter's dazzling masterpiece, "Symphonic Metamorphosis." Also taking place on the program is the WORLD PREMIERE of a work by Brett Kroening, commissioned on the occasion of the orchestra's 40th Anniversary.

Make plans now for the BSO's double matinee concert weekend - "The Grand and The Pastoral" - on February 23 & 24. The program features works by Smetana, Respighi, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven. Celebrated cellist Elizabeth Lee joins the BSO to perform two works for cello and orchestra. Maestro Wesley Schulz says, "Finding calm and peace are essential in keeping up with the grind of life. And "it's in this spirit," he continues, "that I would like to invite you take off your yoke, set down your bag, and come join the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra."

Tickets for the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra performances are $19 for adults and $16 for seniors, students, military, and teachers; each youth receives free admission when accompanied by a paying adult. BPA Box Office hours are 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and one hour prior to each performance.
