Live @ Benaroya Hall jumps into 2016 with new shows and big names including three very different types of Seattle Symphony collaborations. Prior to that performance the Seattle Symphony goes "indie" with DeVotchKa and "rocks out" with some classic Led Zeppelin tunes. Blues, jazz and acoustic guitar concerts round out the late winter and early spring Live@ Benaroya Hall offerings. Tickets to all these concerts are on sale now and additional 2016 concerts will be announced in the coming weeks.

DeVotchKa with the Seattle Symphony Tue. January 12, 7:30pm - Tickets $32-47

S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium http://devotchka.net/

Denver-based indie rock band DeVotchKa is a melting pot of genres - a quartet whose lush, dreamlike sound can be easily mistaken for that of an entire orchestra. In 2012, DeVotchKa took the natural step of restructuring their songs for a large symphony; the result was an exciting concert collaboration with the Colorado Symphony. Now, DeVotchKa pairs up with the Seattle Symphony to again translate their intimate melodies into a full-scale orchestral experience.

An Evening with Branford Marsalis Fri. Feb. 12, 8pm - Tickets $55-65

Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall http://www.branfordmarsalis.com/

NEA Jazz Master, renowned Grammy-winning saxophonist and Tony Award nominee Branford Marsalis is one of the most revered instrumentalists of his time. Leader of one of the finest jazz quartets today, and a frequent soloist with classical ensembles, Marsalis' most current recording with his quartet is Four MFs Playin' Tunes. On this album, the song takes center stage, with the band members bringing their considerable musical expertise to bear, as they focus on each tune as an important musical entity unto itself and not merely a vehicle for showcasing individual talent. Charles Gans from the Associated Press exclaims, "Saxophonist Marsalis leads one of the most cohesive, intense small jazz ensembles on the scene today.... This album shows that Marsalis' quartet hasn't skipped a beat with the change in the drummer's chair, effortlessly playing often complex original tunes that are thoroughly modern while referencing past jazz masters." The Branford Marsalis Quartet is one of the most innovative and forward-thinking jazz ensembles around today.

The Music of Led Zeppelin: A Rock Symphony w/ the Seattle Symphony Fri. Feb 26, 8pm - Tickets $27-67

S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium http://www.windbornemusic.com/

Bridging the gap between rock 'n' roll and classical music, Seattle Symphony performs The Music of Led Zeppelin! Amplified by a full rock band and accompanied by singer Randy Jackson's screaming vocals, this concert captures Led Zeppelin's "sheer blast and power," riff for riff while churning out new musical colors.

David Lindley Tue. Mar. 1 7:30pm - Tickets $30-35

Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall http://www.davidlindley.com/

Multi-instrumentalist David Lindley performs music that redefines the word "eclectic." Lindley, well known for his many years as the featured accompanist with Jackson Browne and leader of his own band El Rayo-X, has long championed the concept of world music. His electro-acoustic style effortlessly combines American folk, blues and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Malagasy and Turkish musical sources. Lindley incorporates an incredible array of stringed instruments including but not limited to Kona and Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel guitar, Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud and Irish bouzouki. At his expansive and eclectic live performances, David Lindley consistently gives one of the most unique concert experiences available to adventuresome music listeners.

Keb'Mo' Thur. Mar 17, 7:30pm - Tickets $25-75

Modern day blues/roots singer-songwriter Keb' Mo' joins our diverse Live @ Benaroya Hall lineup, hot on the heels of his twelfth and latest album release - the Grammy-nominated BLUESAmericana (April 2015). Over the past two decades, Keb' has cultivated a reputation as a modern master of American roots music, and his songs have been recorded by the likes of B.B. King, Joe Cocker, Buddy Guy and the Dixie Chicks. His soulful playing inspired leading instrument maker, Gibson Brands, to issue the Keb' Mo' Signature Bluesmaster acoustic guitar.

Makana Fri. April 1, 8pm - Tickets $25-35

Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall http://makanamusic.com/

Hailing from the isle of O'ahu, Makana is an internationally acclaimed slack-key guitarist, singer-songwriter, activist and one of Hawaii's cultural ambassadors to the world. His dynamic, high-octane style provides an exhilarating ride through the breadth of slack key - combining elements of bluegrass, rock, blues and raga, yet still infused with the spirit of Hawai'i. Virtuosic and versatile, Makana's guitar playing was featured on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the film The Descendents, and he has garnered praise from such guitar luminaries as Metallica's Kirk Hammett and flamenco master Pepe Romero.
