The band devolved from a long line of brain-eating apes, some of which settled in N.E. Ohio around Akron where members of Devo eventually appeared years after the A-Bomb ended World War II. By the process of natural selection they met and shared the habits of making electronic noise, watching TV and watching everybody else. They called what they saw around them De-Evolution and called their music Devo. It made the sound of things falling apart. Spuds yelled and threw things like beer bottles at DEVO when they played. But one day in 1977 the Spuds cheered and threw fits because Spudboys in the cities realized that "We're All Devo!" Booji Boy had been telling everyone this fact for years. He told them in Devo's first movie "The Truth About De-Evolution." Now that nearly everyone is finding out, here is something else. The five Spudboys from Ohio are almost uniform in height and weight and their boot size is 8C. Alan provides the jungle style beats, Jerry emits debased pulses and Bob No. 2 adds precise Robot Rhythms. Bob No. 1 retaliates with sonic mutations and Mark sprays the entire mixture with alien synthesizer gases, plus his voice is used more of the time than the other four. They are all following the commands of their genetic codes, they are suburban robots here to entertain corporate life forms. DEVO says opposites and rebellion are obsolete. The fittest shall survive yet the unfit may live. It's all the same.

Yonder Mountain String Band has always played music by its own set of rules. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences that the band cites, Yonder has pioneered a sound of their own. With their traditional lineup of instruments, the band may look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance but they've created their own music that transcends any genre. Dave Johnston points out "What could be more pure than making your own music." Yonder's sound cannot be classified purely as "bluegrass" or "string music" but rather it's an original sound created from "looking at music from [their] own experiences and doing the best job possible." The band continues to play by their own rules on their new record The Show. The Colorado-based foursome has crisscrossed the country over the past eleven years playing such varied settings as festivals, rock clubs, Red Rocks Amphitheater in the band's home state, and recently the Democratic National Convention in Denver at Mile High Stadium opening for Barack Obama. Their loyal fanbase has been built from this diverse setting of music venues as fans latched on to their genre-defying original sound.

Fleet Foxes

Venue: Moore Theatre (All Ages)
Price: $33.00 not including applicable fees
Seating: General Admission
On sale date: Friday, February 4th @ 10am

In 2006, the boys emerged, and began shaking out some of the basement-born tunes live as Fleet Foxes. They created new songs, scrapped the old, then created more and scrapped them too, eventually finding a few that fit just about right, along with some new friends who emerged from Seattle's musical woodwork: keyboardist Casey Westcott (Seldom), drummer Nick Peterson (Headphones, Pedro the Lion) and later, bassist Christian Wargo (Crystal Skulls). From the Fox den, with the help of credit cards, minimum wages, tip money, friends and family, the boys worked, crafting their first demo, and subsequently the Sun Giant EP and this debut full-length album, with family friend (and Pecknold childhood hero) Phil Ek manning the rudder. As far as the music Robin puts it best: 'We aim to be adventurous and true to ourselves and to enjoy our time togetherthe music we make is a reflection of our instincts. To me, the most enjoyable thing in the world is to sing harmony with people, so we do that a bunch. We love acoustic guitars, electric guitars, big rolling tom drums, mandolins, dulcimers, bass guitars, bass pedals, organs, pianos, kotos, and most of all harmony and melody. We've succeeded for ourselves if we've made a song where every instrument is doing something interesting and melodic. We try to draw from the traditions of folk music, pop, choral music and gospel, baroque psychedelic, sacred harp singing, West Coast music, traditional music from Ireland to Japan, and film scores, and are inspired by the music of our friends and contemporaries in the Seattle music family.' 'Fleet Foxes' sound is in constant motionan ever-evolving, growing and changing, living thing, climbing higher and higher to reach an illusory pinnacle in the clouds that grows more elusive with each inch of elevation gained.
