Annex Theatre presents Caught One-Handed, the shockingly-true and uncomfortably-hilarious story of growing up in a fundamentalist community with more than a few things going awry.

What do the Old Testament, handbells, and jockstraps all have in common? Noah - a confused kid with sticky fingers. When Noah's parents put him in conversion therapy at eleven years old to "straighten him out," it's all he can do to maintain his sanity while his hormones and the Will of God duke it out. His dad Bob, a youth leader and trustee of Noah's Christian School, apparently has his best interests at heart - until Noah finds out exactly how much interest Bob has been showing in his adolescent friends.

Caught One-Handed gleefully skips through the Kingdom of God, illuminating dark and vicious secrets in the house of the Lord. Lest you think that it's all fire and brimstone, this live-action memoir features enough masterful comedy and splashy dance breaks to keep even non-believers on their toes.

While this solo show tickles plenty of funny bones, it also serves as a catalyst for discussing sexuality, abuse, and denial, as well as the deep wounds and repressed memories that people carry with them from childhood. There will be a talk-back following each performance. Caught One-Handed was developed under the direction of Keira McDonald, and excerpts were featured as part of Spin the Bottle at Annex, CockTales at WET, and SPF Shorts.

Noah Duffy started as a New York-based performer before a national tour led him to Seattle in 2011. Here, he works as a physical actor and dancer (ACT, Village Theatre, Balagan Theatre), company member of the international Seagull Project, and strip-teasin' clown with his interarts gang The Libertinis.

Annex Theatre is a democratic collective of theatre artists dedicated to creating bold new work in an environment of improbability, resourcefulness, and risk. Annex Theatre produces new plays by living playwrights, radical reinterpretations of classic scripts, and ensemble-generated non-linear spectacles. Now in its Capitol Hill venue, Annex originally opened its doors in 1987 in a former dance studio on 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle. Since then the theater has produced hundreds of world and Northwest premieres.

Caught One-Handed performs August 12th-27th on Tuesdays and Wednesday at 8pm. Tickets are $5-$10, and a short talk-back will follow each performance. For tickets and more info, visit www.annextheatre.org.
