To celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, the King's Theatre Glasgow is proud to announce for the second year the pantomime schedule will include a Relaxed Performance today 8 January at 11am. Following the success of Peter Pan's Relaxed Performance, this panto season Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be specially designed to welcome people with autism, learning difficulties or other sensory and communication needs.

There will be a less formal atmosphere in the auditorium with a relaxed attitude to noise and house lights will be kept on low. Lighting, sound and special effects in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be softened to reduce anxiety. Audience members are free to move around and can use the designated chill out areas to relax.

The Relaxed Performance gives people affected by autism or learning disabilities the chance to experience the magic of the King's Christmas panto in a safe enjoyable environment. Families, groups and schools are all welcome to join this festive adventure into an enchanted fairytale forest. Will the Wicked Queen banish Snow White once and for all, or will the dashing Prince thwart her plans with help from the Seven Dwarfs?

January's Relaxed Performance received rave reviews:

'Superb! Our children responded so well, even ones with noise sensitivities' - Teacher, High Blantyre Primary School

'Loved it. A great day' - Group leader, Richmond Fellowship

'Cast brilliant, a relaxed atmosphere and great to have a chill-out zone' - Leader, Sense Scotland

Alison Cowan, Creative Learning Manager and Access Champion, is thrilled to be building on the success of the King's first Relaxed Performance: "I am delighted that once again the King's is offering this inclusive theatre experience. The Christmas pantomime is aimed at families and children and it is great to see that just by making a number of small but important adjustments, we can welcome people who might not otherwise experience the magic of live theatre."

Relaxed Performance bookers will be provided with a Visual Story in advance of the show which contains information about what to expect on the day and to help prepare for the production. This will also include photographs, a plot summary, character descriptions and a note of audience participation to explain the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

A familiarisation visit to the theatre ahead of the show can be arranged where staff will be available to answer any questions. In addition to our front of house team, trained staff members and volunteers will be on hand at all times during the performance should anyone require assistance.
