Theatre Raleigh Announces Casting for Summer Series

Theatre Raleigh's Artistic Director Lauren Kennedy Brady announces the casting for their Summer Series at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Season tickets are on-sale now and individual tickets will be available on May 1.

"We are pleased to be working with such amazing casts this summer. Returning to Theatre Raleigh is Broadway veteran Judy McLane, who won Best Actress in a Musical from Broadway World for last year's production of The Light in the Piazza. Raleigh favorite Yolanda Rabun will be heating up Smokey Joe's Cafe, and we are excited to introduce young actress Skyla Woodard who will be taking on the lead role of 10 year old Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden," said Lauren Kennedy Brady, Artistic Director of Theatre Raleigh.

SUMMER SERIES

Smokey Joe's Cafe - Kennedy Theatre (May 31st - June 11th)

The soundtrack of the 50's and 60's comes to life in this musical revue showcasing the music of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Featuring NC phenom Yolanda Rabun (recording artist, corporate attorney and family woman, she recently opened for Stephanie Mills and Will Downing at DPAC), directed by Julia Murney (Elphaba in Broadway's Wicked), and choreographed by Abbey O'Brien (currently an Associate Choreographer on the hit show Waitress).

Struck - Kennedy Theatre (June 21st - July 2nd)

The regional premiere of Struck by Sandy Rustin asks whether an accident is really and accident at all? Following a life altering event of a neurotic Manhattan couple and their hippy-chic Texan neighbor, this silly, surprising and soulful serio-comedy explores fate, family and identity. Starring Emily Kron (Phoebe in Shakespeare's As You Like It at the renowned Denver Center), Sid Solomon (recipient of the Broadway League's Rising Star Award) and directed by Gina Rattan (Associate Director of Broadway's Cinderella and Matilda).

Lombardi - Kennedy Theatre (July 19th - 30th)

Lombardi chronicles the legendary football coach's journey from Brooklyn Boy to the Hall of Fame. Highlighting David Henderson (founder and artistic director of Honest Pint Theatre Company and for the past 20 years, he had the pleasure of playing Jacob Marley in Theatre in the Park's annual production of A Christmas Carol), Broadway veteran Judy McLane (Broadway's Mamma Mia, Kiss of the Spider Woman and Aspects of Love) and Directed by Charlie Brady (Broadway's South Pacific) known to TR audiences for his work in A Few Good Men and All My Sons.

The Secret Garden - Fletcher Opera Theater (August 15th - 20th)

This enchanting classic of children's literature is reimagined in brilliant musical style -The Secret Garden is a compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal. Presenting Skyla Woodard (local productions of Mary Poppins, and Disney's The Little Mermaid), Michael Halling (Broadway's Boy From Oz, A Tale Of Two Cities, The Scarlet Pimpernel), and Jenny Latimer (25th Anniversary Tour of Les Miserables).

Rock Of Ages - Koka Booth Amphitheater (September 7th - 10th)

Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Directed by Michael Berry and Choreographed by Abbey O'Brien don't miss the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.
