On Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon, Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra, will offer a performance at Central Market in York. Accompanying him at market will be Ken Osowski, associate professor and coordinator of piano and music theory studies at York College of Pennsylvania. The pair will perform four, 15 to 20 minute sets on the violin and piano starting at 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. These performances will showcase pieces that Maestro Golan will perform with the York Symphony Orchestra throughout the 2016-2017 season, A Musical Journey Through Time.

This sneak peek presentation will be held in the dining area of Central Market and there will be several opportunities for the audience to engage and speak with the musicians. Additionally, members of the York Symphony Orchestra, the York Junior Symphony Orchestra and the York Youth Symphony will be present, offering market-goers the chance to learn more about the three symphony organizations.

"We enjoyed the opportunity to showcase our upcoming season last year and we are very excited to do it again this year at Central Market on Aug. 13," said Golan. "We love having the community behind us going into a new season. We are excited to once again team up with Central Market for a very special performance."

Osowski has performed on the prestigious stages of Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center and has appeared with the Reno Chamber Orchestra and the University of Nevada Orchestra. He has also served on the music faculties of the Peabody Conservatory and Johns Hopkins University before teaching classes at York College of Pennsylvania.

This season, Golan will return to the stage to lead the Orchestra on a journey through melodic history. The 2016-2017 season, A Musical Journey Through Time, will feature 11 performances, including: a Classical series with six performances, inspired by some of the best known compositions in music history; three Pops performances, honoring the music of John Williams, the Titanic, and holiday selections audiences will know and love; along with two family-friendly presentations, including the popular music education troupe, Classical Kids Live! and a broadcast of National Public Radio's, From The Top, starring Christopher O'Riley. The first concert of the season, "The Music of John Williams: 85th Birthday Celebration," is Sept 24 at 7:30 p.m. and will showcase the sounds of "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," "E.T.," "Jurassic Park," "Harry Potter," "Jaws" and more.

A variety of season subscription packages are now available and may be purchased by calling 717-846-1111.
