Music Theatre Philly Will 'Defy Gravity' with a Wicked Broadway Master Class

Get ready for a very "popular" afternoon of gravity-defying Broadway dance, singing, and acting! Music Theatre Philly, named "Best of Philly" by Philadelphia Magazine, will be sponsoring a Wicked Broadway Master Class featuring Wicked cast member Lauren Haughton. The intensive behind-the-scenes look at one of Broadway's most popular musicals will take place on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at The Rock School (1101 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia).

Music Theatre Philly's Wicked Broadway Master Class will bring the magic and excitement of the show through a fun and informative glimpse into the Broadway choreography. Learn a combination from one of the show's musical numbers, get an inside scoop on some Broadway secrets in a Q&A/Talk Back Session, and have a personal photo opportunity with Lauren!

Lauren Haughton is currently on the National Tour of Wicked. She has appeared on Broadway in Wicked and has performed at the Goodman Theatre, Old Globe Theatre, Maine State Music Theatre, Arizona Broadway Theatre, Stages St. Louis, Beef & Boards, Syracuse Stage, and the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse. Lauren as served as choreographer/assistant director on Trouble in Tahiti, Susannah, and The Tender Land for Northwestern University Opera. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Syracuse University.

This Broadway Master Class is just one in a series of offerings from Music Theatre Philly. The company has teamed up with some of the hottest Broadway shows and some of the most popular Broadway national touring companies that are making their way through the Philadelphia area! Each Master Class is specifically designed by Music Theatre Philly and led by at least one cast member of each show. Upcoming master classes include Finding Neverland, Cats, Waitress, Something Rotten, School of Rock, and Aladdin.

Music Theatre Philly will also offer a Broadway Bootcamp this fall (September 18-December 18, 2017) for ages 12 and up at their home studio at 262 S. 12th Street, Philadelphia . Whether you're looking to audition for your high school musical, prep for college auditions, or land that next professional show, Broadway Bootcamp is the ideal course. Specially designed for Music Theatre Philly, this class is like none other offered in the Philadelphia area. Led by award-winning theatre professionals, Broadway Bootcamp will explore the different disciplines of musical theatre while helping you take that next step in your confidence and your career, whether you're a professional or just hope to be!

Music Theatre Philly's Wicked Broadway Master Class will take place on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 4:30-6:00pm at The Rock School (1101 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia). Pre-registration is $30 and can be made at musictheatrephilly.com. Students must be ages 9 and up. Teens and adults are encouraged to participate!

Mindy Dougherty is a Philadelphia resident and Mother of two who is incredibly thrilled to bring her professional background and passion for theatrical training to the city of Brotherly Love! As a performer, Mindy appeared on Broadway in the Tony Award winning revival of GYPSY, starring Broadway legend Patti LuPone, preserved with a Grammy Award winning original revival recording. Other New York credits include the critically acclaimed City Center Encores production of GYPSY (starring Patti LuPone), SERENADE (Jaradoa Theatre Company), and SONDHEIM: THE BIRTHDAY CONCERT at Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic. Around the United States, Mindy starred in the Broadway National Tour of A CHORUS LINE as 'Val', and has performed regionally with highlights including Walnut Street Theatre (CURTAINS, 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL, WEST SIDE STORY), Marriott Lincolnshire (ANNIE GET YOUR GUN), Ford's Theatre, DC (A CHRISTMAS CAROL), Carousel Dinner Theatre (CATS), Stages St. Louis (GYPSY), Struther's Library Theatre (OKLAHOMA!, GOOD NEWS), Fulton Opera House (EVITA, RAGS, MY FAIR LADY), Fireside Theatre (A FUNNY THING HAPPENED...FORUM), Peninsula Players (DAMES AT SEA). DANN DUNN has created and maintained award-winning professional works as a Director/Choreographer, Associate, and Dance Captain around the world. A resident of Philadelphia, Dann is the recipient of Broadway World Philadelphia's 'Best Director' and 'Best Choreographer' Awards (2012, 2013, 2015) and is a 2015 Philadelphia Barrymore Award nomination for 'Outstanding Choreography/Movement'.
