The world-renowned Abbey Theatre of Dublin, credited for producing some of the most significant and important plays of the 20th century, returns to the Annenberg Center for the first time since 2004 for performances of Irish playwright Mark O'Rowe's critically-acclaimed play TERMINUS, February 16-20, 2011. A dark, supernatural odyssey set over one night in the city, TERMINUS will fully satisfy the appetite of theatre lovers through excellent acting and rich text. Performances by The Abbey Theatre, the National Theatre of Ireland, are part of a seven-city U.S. tour celebrating the Abbey's 100th anniversary of touring in America. The Abbey Theatre last performed at the Annenberg Center in 2004 to rave reviews of J.M. Synge's riot-inducing play The Playboy of the Western World. Performances of TERMINUS take place on Wednesday, February 16 at 7:30 PM; Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 PM; Friday, February 18 at 8:00 PM; Saturday, February 19 at 2:00 PM & 8:00 PM; and Sunday, February 20 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $25-$35 (weekday evening performances) a $28-$48 (evening performances).

TERMINUS was first produced at Ireland's Abbey Theatre in 2007. In 2008, the play received a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe before enjoying a hugely successful run at New York's Public Theater later that same year. An urban fantasy set in Dublin where the streets - and the skies above - are the scene for an extraordinary chain of events, when three lives collide over a single night of temptation, damnation, rebirth and redemption. Lovesick demons, avenging angels and serial killers conspire to alter these three lives forever. TERMINUS stars Conlon, Olwen Fouéré and Catherine Walker. Written and directed by Mark O'Rowe. Set and costumes designed by Jon Bausor with lighting by Philip Gladwell and sound by Philip Stewart. Running time is one hour, 40 minutes.

Mark O'Rowe Mark O'Rowe's plays include TERMINUS (Abbey Theatre, 2007), From both Hips (Fishamble, 1997), Anna's Ankle (Bedrock, 1997), Howie the Rookie (Bush, 1999), Made in China (Abbey, 2001), and Crestfall (Gate Theatre, 2003). Screenplays include Intermission (Company of Wolves, 2004), Boy A (Channel 4, 2007) based on the novel by Jonathan Trigell, and Perrier's Bounty (Parallel, 2009).

The Abbey TheatreThe Abbey Theatre first toured to the United States of America in 1911.The first tour went to 30 venues nationwide and brought 17 new plays to American audiences. This included The Playboy of the Western World by J.M. Synge, Kathleen Ni Houlihan by W.B Yeats and four plays by Lady Gregory. From 1911-14, The Abbey Theatre continued to tour annually to America. Only the outbreak of two world wars stopped the tours in the early years of the twentieth century. From 1938-76 there were no U.S. tours. In November 1976, the Abbey started touring again, bringing Sean O'Casey's masterpiece The Plough and the Stars to the Brooklyn Academy Of Music.

Recently, the Abbey has toured TERMINUS by Mark O'Rowe to the Under the Radar festival in New York (2008), Kicking a Dead Horse to The Public Theater, New York (2008), and Ages of the Moon to the Atlantic Theater Company in New York (2010).

TERMINUS Enhancement EventsAudience members are invited to stay after the performances on Wednesday, February 16 for a discussion immediately following the performance. On Thursday, February 17, audience members are invited to stay for a post-show talk back with members of the TERMINUS cast led by Father David Cregan O.S.A., Ph.D., Associate Professor for Theatre and English and Villanova University.

Philadelphia Irish Theatre FestivalPerformances of TERMINUS are part of the Philadelphia Irish Theatre Festival, taking place between December 2010 and May 2011. The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts joins five other Philadelphia-area theatre companies, including Amaryllis Theatre Company, the Lantern Theater Company, Inis Nua Theatre Company, Theatre Exile and ACT II playhouse, in presenting works by Irish playwrights. In addition to TERMINUS, the Annenberg Center will also present the Druid Theatre of Galway's production of Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan, May 19-22, 2011.
