The Huntington Theatre Company will open its 2016-2017 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George, Stephen Sondheim's stunning masterpiece about love, inspiration, and "the art of making art." Huntington Artistic Director Peter DuBois (A Little Night Music) will direct. Performances will run September 9 - October 16, 2016 at the Avenue of the Arts / BU Theatre. Tickets are now on sale to the general public. (more...)

Trinity Repertory Company, in partnership with Rhode Island Latino Arts, announces a new program, Shakespeare en el Verano (Shakespeare in the Summer). The inaugural production will premiere a bilingual English-Spanish adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Adapted by Arte Latino of New England (ALNE) director Saul Ramos and directed by Trinity Rep's associate artistic director Tyler Dobrowsky, the production will tour throughout Providence from July 9-July 23, 2016. The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team of the first offering in the 2016 Summer Shakespeare Festival: William Shakespeare's thrilling classic Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick, Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company and a leading Shakespearean expert. The so-called "Scottish Play" will run June 19 - July 24, 2016, in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Previews run June 19 - 24. Opening night is Saturday, June 25 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets start at $29, on sale now to the general public. (more...)

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced eleven awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its eighth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $43,000 to twelve organizations across the country. (more...)

After a critically acclaimed run at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theater in 2014, Sarah Ruhl's play The Oldest Boy is set to be read at leading regional theaters around the country for the one year anniversary of the Nepal earthquake, as part of a national effort to raise relief funds for the victims of the disaster. A staged reading of The Oldest Boy will be presented at Central Square Theater in Cambridge, MA on May 9 at 7PM. The reading will be directed by Ronn Smith and will feature Lee Mikeska Gardner, Artistic Director of The Nora Theatre Company. (more...)

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 150 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 48th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 12-16, 2016 in multiple locations throughout the Center. Thousands of student artists from eight regions across the country presented their work at regional festivals from January 5 through February 27, 2016 and more than 150 were selected to travel to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the national festival.
