Rivendell Theatre Ensemble (RTE), Chicago's only Equity theatre dedicated to producing new work with women at the core, announces the Midwest premiere of Grizzly Mama by George Brant. The production, directed by RTE member Megan Carney, runs September 8 - October 15, 2016, at Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, 5779 N. Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Marg Helgenberger, known for her 12 seasons as Catherine Willows on CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, stars as Regina Giddens under veteran director Kyle Donnelly, who has directed more than 20 productions at Arena Stage. Trinity Repertory Company, in partnership with Rhode Island Latino Arts, announces a new program, Shakespeare en el Verano (Shakespeare in the Summer). The inaugural production will premiere a bilingual English-Spanish adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Adapted by Arte Latino of New England (ALNE) director Saul Ramos and directed by Trinity Rep's associate artistic director Tyler Dobrowsky, the production will tour throughout Providence from July 9-July 23, 2016. The so-called "Scottish Play" will run June 19 - July 24, 2016, in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Previews run June 19 - 24. The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced eleven awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. After a critically acclaimed run at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theater in 2014, Sarah Ruhl's play The Oldest Boy is set to be read at leading regional theaters around the country for the one year anniversary of the Nepal earthquake, as part of a national effort to raise relief funds for the victims of the disaster. A staged reading of The Oldest Boy will be presented at Central Square Theater in Cambridge, MA on May 9 at 7PM. The reading will be directed by Ronn Smith and will feature Lee Mikeska Gardner, Artistic Director of The Nora Theatre Company. (more...)
