Following two sold-out engagements in both 2013 and 2014, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival presents tap sensation Dorrance Dance with famed singer/songwriter Toshi Reagon and her band BIGLovely in the return of The Blues Project, July 1-5 in the Ted Shawn Theatre. Founded in 2011 by Jacob's Pillow Dance Award recipient Michelle Dorrance, Dorrance Dance features some of today's best tap artists, performing alongside co-choreographers of The Blues Project Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards and Derick K. Grant. Award-winning musician and composer Toshi Reagon created the music for The Blues Project, which is performed live by Reagon and members of her band, BIGLovely, on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, drums and percussion, and violin. A cast of six will lead a reading of the Broadway-bound WHAT WOMEN DO (and men too) written by playwright and Broadway performer William Youmans and directed by Don Stephenson. The new play is a battle-of-the-sexes farce set in New York City. The reading, which is being produced by The Resonance Ensemble, takes place on Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m at the Manhattan Theatre Club Studios (311 W 43rd Street 8th Floor) and is open to the public.  (more...)

Following a recent sold out debut at Bar Thalia, Symphony Space's newest home for Jazz, acclaimed NYC vocalist-songwriter MARCUS GOLDHABER is returning to launch 'MOSTLY MARCUS,' a Sunday night Jazz Duo summer residency, backed only by a top jazz guitarist and joined each week by a different guest artist. The rotating group of jazz guitarists includes Hendrik Helmer (Wyclef Jean, Carly Simon, Duncan Sheik), John Hart (Jimmy Smith, James Moody), Ron Affif (Al Martino, Roger Williams) and Sean Harkness (Eileen Ivers, Julie Budd). A program representing cultures from around the world will be performed at Symphony Space Tuesday, June 23, at 7 p.m., in 'Resounding Hope Through Music,' a concert featuring three extraordinary youth choirs: the YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus from Israel in its New York debut and from the U.S., the Chicago Children's Chorus and the Young People's Chorus of New York City, which is presenting this concert as part of its 'Transmusica' concert series. The New England Philharmonic (NEP) has selected "Spectre of the Spheres" by David Hertzberg, winner of their 30th annual Call for Scores. The composition will receive its Boston premiere by the NEP under the direction of Richard Pittman at their April 30, 2016 concert. The concert will also feature the world premiere of an NEP commission from David Rawkowski, Symphony No. 6,  Alban Berg's  Violin Concerto ("To the Memory of an Angel") featuring soloist, Danielle Maddon and Jean Sibelius' "The Oceanides."
