Some of the best things in life only come once a year! Nashville Ballet is pleased to announce the dates for our annual Nutcracker Youth Cast Auditions. This annual production is one of the three highest attended shows in Nashville, with an audience of over 15,000 people. If your child is eight years old, we invite them to be part of this magical holiday tradition.

The international hit sensation, FUERZA BRUTA: LOOK UP, is pleased to announce an Artistic Discussion Series. The program will allow cast members of FUERZA BRUTA: LOOK UP to interact with fellow Chicago theaters and share experiences and visions surrounding their artistic communities. Each theater company will be invited by FUERZA BRUTA to attend a performance then share in a collaborative artistic discussion following the show. Collaboraction will be the first theater company to participate in this program on Tuesday, June 2.

Jacob's Pillow announces its 2010 full season calendar, including more than 200 free performances, talks, photography exhibits, tours, and events. Free event highlights include the Blake's Barn exhibit Lois Greenfield: Imagined Moments, featuring Greenfield's signature dance photography, and 'Let's Dance!' a new community event on July 4 with free dance classes and workshops for teens and adults. PillowTalks, held Thursdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 4pm, include Virginia Johnson, recently named Artistic Director of Dance Theatre of Harlem (June 24), choreographer/director Bill T. Jones (July 22), and the return of Pulitzer Prize winner Jules Feiffer (July 31). Inside/Out performance highlights include the all-female hip-hop group Decadancetheatre (July 7), the dancers of The School at Jacob's Pillow's first ever Tap Program (July 10), alumnus of The School at Jacob's Pillow and Artistic Director of his own ensemble, Avi Scher (July 23), and ¡Flamenco Revolución! (August 27).

Alexandra Meister, a Nashville Ballet 2 dancer, is one of only six American female dancers to participate in the most eminent of competitions, the International Ballet Competition, held June 12-27, 2010, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Northrop at the University of Minnesota announces its 10-11 dance season curated by Director of Concerts and Lectures at Northrop, Ben Johnson. This year, Northrop will continue to uphold the tradition of presenting world-class dance by providing an extensive scope of the finest American and International ballet, modern, and contemporary dance featuring renowned choreographers, world-class dance companies, and magnificently talented dancers.

Recently hailed as 'second to none' by Dance Magazine, Ailey II, the celebrated junior company of America's cultural ambassador to the world, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will embark on its first international tour, giving over 35 performances throughout Europe in Germany, Austria, France, and United Kingdom.

Nashville Ballet celebrates its 25th Anniversary and announces the 2010/2011 season. Packed with crowd pleasers, the Ballet will offer some of the most requested ballets for a full year of favorites. This season will also see the addition of a special family performance, Peter and the Wolf, a production created specifically for a younger ballet audience.

Bringing the written word to life through Mendelssohn's music and the narrative of dance, audiences will delight as Puck plays tricks on the ill-fated lovers in the enchanted forest and as the antics of the midsummer's night become resolved by the light of the day. Costumes and sets are being designed by Campbell Baird, the talented designer who created costumes for our new Nutcracker. Each performance will be accompanied by the Nashville Symphony, directed by Nashville Ballet Music Director Paul Gambill, vocalists Julie Cox and Amy Jarman and the sixty-eight voice Nashville Children's Choir, directed by Dr. Madeline Bridges.

Festival from April 13-22. 'After being on the road for the majority of last year, the dancers absolutely love coming home to perform in the epicenter of the dance world,' Artistic Director Sylvia Waters says.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (HSDC), one of the world's premiere contemporary dance companies, will present a riveting 2010 Spring Series, which will include the World Premiere of Terence Marling's At ‘em (Atem) Adam; a Hubbard Street 2 (HS2) World Premiere performance of First Light set by HSDC's resident choreographer and dancer Alejandro Cerrudo; the Company Premiere of 27'52' by world-renowned choreographer Jirí Kylián; and a revival of Susan Marshall's Kiss. The Spring Series will take place at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive, in five performances only, March 18 - 21, 2010. The Spring Series is generously sponsored by Exelon and the Chicago Sun-Times.

Nashville Ballet will host Jacques d'Amboise Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. for "An Encounter With Dance". Local youth have been invited to meet this ballet legend and have the opportunity to learn more about dance movement. Jacques has touched the lives of two million children across the globe and Nashville Ballet is honored to have him here in Nashville. He will also be honored at Ballet Ball (at the Hutton Hotel) Saturday evening.
