Jacque d’Amboise to Host 'An Encounter with Dance' at Nashville Ballet, 3/6
Nashville Ballet will host Jacques d'Amboise Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. for "An Encounter With Dance".
Local youth have been invited to meet this ballet legend and have the opportunity to learn more about dance movement. Jacques has touched the lives of two million children across the globe and Nashville Ballet is honored to have him here in Nashville. He will also be honored at Ballet Ball (at the Hutton Hotel) Saturday evening.
Well known as a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, and seen in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Carousel, Jacques d'Amboise now leads the field of arts education with a model program that exposes thousands of school children to the magic and discipline of dance. At age fifteen, Mr. d'Amboise joined New York City Ballet, and as a principal dancer, had many works choreographed specifically for him by George Balanchine, including Who Cares? Mr. d'Amboise went on to have an exceptional career with NYCB, and on Broadway. He has achieved international renown as a choreographer and as the founder of the National Dance Institute. He has been honored by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, received six Emmy awards, and has received the National Medal of Arts and a MacArthur fellowship, and numerous honorary degrees. http://www.nationaldance.org/about_founder.htm
