With her new show at the Metropolitan Room that opened last night—Groupies: The Muses Behind the Legends of Rock & Roll--the usually smart and meticulous Lauren Fox (as evidenced by her shows that celebrated the music of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen and later the Pop/Rock that emerged from Laurel Canyon in the 1960s) has here chosen questionable territory--the celebration of women who serially slept their way through the music business or, as Fox more poetically says, “Made it their life's mission to meet the beautiful boys who made the music that moved them.” Hook-ups are exemplified by often unappealing numbers (too much monotone) and bridged with quotes by groupies whose role as “muses” or sources of creative inspiration seems a stretch. The Rolling Stones have announced that WALK THE MOON will be the special guest artist opening their show in Detroit on Wednesday, July 8 at Comerica Park.  ZIP CODE, the band's 15-city North American stadium tour, kicks off in San Diego on May 24, and will also be making stops in Columbus, Minneapolis, Arlington, Atlanta, Orlando, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Raleigh, Indianapolis and Buffalo before wrapping in Quebec on July 15 at Le Festival D'Eté de Québec. Belarus Free Theatre -- the internationally-acclaimed  troupe said by Sir Tom Stoppard to "defy gravity"  -- returns to New York with the U.S. premiere of TRASH CUISINE at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) in Manhattan, it has been announced by Mia Yoo, La MaMa's Artistic Director. TRASH CUISINE will begin previews April 25, officially open April 29 and run through May 17. Weill Hall and the Green Music Center (GMC) at Sonoma State University (SSU) announced its 2015–16 season today, with concerts in Weill Hall, Schroeder Hall, and through the summer at Weill Hall + Lawn. The season comprises the MasterCard Performance Series — 39 concerts on the stage of the 1,400-seat Weill Hall, featuring a roster of internationally renowned stars from the genres of classical music, 2 world music, jazz and pop — leading off with a Gala Opening Night performance by piano superstar Lang Lang; the Summer 2015 MasterCard Performance Series, which takes place with seating both indoors in Weill Hall and on the spacious Weill Lawn featuring an array of contemporary music; and 24 concerts in 240- seat Schroeder Hall, including the popular Sundays At Schroeder series plus three new offerings — a fiveday, nine-concert GMC ChamberFest 2015, led by Jeffrey Kahane, a new Saturday Cabaret four-concert series, and four performances with Musicians from Valley of the Moon Music Festival, featuring early music performed on period instruments by leading Bay Area musicians.
