Tippet Rise Announces Fifth Concert Season Highlights For Summer 2020

Tippet Rise Art Center is pleased to announce highlights and dates of its fifth anniversary concert season, July 10 through August 29, 2020. The art center, which opened in 2016 and celebrates the union of land, art, architecture, and music, will present seven weeks of concerts featuring an impressive list of artists, many of them making their debuts at Tippet Rise. Complete program details will be announced on February 18 and tickets will be available through a randomized drawing, which will open on the Tippet Rise website on the same day at 12pm MST/2pm EST and remain open until 5pm MST/7pm EST on March 9, 2020.

Casting Set for Dominique Morisseau's PIPELINE at Studio Theatre

Casting is set for Studio Theatre's production of Pipeline, playwright Dominique Morisseau's searing drama about the school-to-prison pipeline and a mother desperately trying to keep her son from becoming ensnared in it. The production runs January 15-February 16, 2020 and is directed by Awoye Timpo. Starring are DC theatre favorite Justin Weaks (Studio's Curve of Departure) as high school student Omari and Andrea Harris Smith making her Studio debut as his mother, public school teacher Nya. In its recent People Issue, Washington City Paper's called Weaks a 'standout,' going on to say: 'D.C. theater audiences love Justin Weaks. ...Weaks came to D.C. for a job about four years ago, not expecting to stay. But he kept getting cast in shows, and lucky for local theatergoers, he's still here.'

Chamber Music Society Of Lincoln Center To Present January Concerts

CMS's 50th anniversary season heads into 2020 with performances of new music, beloved classic pieces, stellar guest artists, and far-reaching tour dates. On January 14 the first truly impressionist-style piece of chamber music and a breakthrough for the string quartet form, Debussy's String Quartet in G minor for Strings, will be performed, along with Brahms's Quartet No. 2 in A major.

Join us as we celebrate the songs of Michael Brown. With music director Michael Lavine at the piano, and Drums: Chip Fabrizi, Guitar: Marc Daine and Bass: John Loehrke. The outstanding cast of musical theatre veterans includes: Michele Ragusa (Broadway musicals: Gypsy, Ragtime, Titanic, Urinetown, Young Frankenstein); T. Oliver Reid (Award winning cabaret and Broadway artist, Hadestown, Once On This Island, Sunset Boulevard); Matthew Scott (Broadway: An American In Paris, A Catered Affair, Jersey Boys, Sondheim On Sondheim); and Deborah Tranelli (Multiple Bistro Awards, TV 11 seasons a?oeDallasa??, recently Bridges of Madison County).

Chamber Music Society Announces November Schedule

During its 50th anniversary season of milestones, CMS begins November with the world premiere of John Corigliano's The Food of Love for Oboe and Celloa?"one of several trailblazing composers highlighted in this concert, including John Cage, Elliott Carter, and Ruth Crawford Seegera?"whose works from the past century have set the stage for composers today (Nov. 7). The piece was commissioned by Corigliano's friends Michèle and Larry Corash for their 50th wedding anniversary. The same day, a free master class will be given by soprano Tony Arnold, who performs in Berg's Lyric Suite for String Quartet the following night, with the Schumann Quartet. The work's hidden musical and numerical codes, and a vocal part, revealed Berg's secret love affair with a married woman (Nov. 8).

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center opens the fall season of its 50th anniversary year in Alice Tully Hall on Tuesday October 15, 2019. The program will highlight Dvorák's “American” quintet—a work inspired by the plains of Spillville, Iowa, and the music of Native and African-Americans—along with works by African-American composer Harry Burleigh, and iconic American composers Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.
