Nordic Voices to Perform at Weill Hall, 2/2

Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) presents Nordic Voices, a six-voice a cappella ensemble from Norway, acclaimed around the world for its technical brilliance and compelling programming. For their performance as part of DCINY's Distinguished Concerts Artist Series, Nordic Voices performs a range of music from Dufay to Ligeti to contemporary Norwegian composer Lasse Thoresen. The concert takes place on Sunday, February 2 at 7:30pm at Weill Recital Hall.

Written and arranged by Plummer and directed by Tony Award winner Des McAnuff, 'A Word or Two' is presented in association with the Stratford Festival of Canada and continues through February 9, 2014. Gamut Theatre Group's Popcorn Hat Players present "ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND (AND THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS)" written by Sean Adams, an original work based on the two classic books by Lewis Carroll. Performances are Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2:30 and 7:30 at Whitaker Center's Sunoco Theatre in Downtown Harrisburg. The much-beloved tale has been adapted into a full-length play performed by students, ages 6 through 18.

ComedySportz presents Alice and her collection of oddball companions in Alice in Wonderland: UNSCRIPTED - a raunchy parody of Lewis Carroll's beloved tale opening in February 2014.
Continuing the dynamite formula of previous UNSCRIPTED works, the ComedySportz pros will mix things up, incorporating audience suggestions into the fantasy classic reshaping an old, familiar story into something new and hilarious! The key structure and memorable characters of 'Alice's Adventure in Wonderland' will be maintained; however,comical changes are bound to occur under the influence of audience suggestions.

When it comes to operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Don Carlo has to be the most challenging one to produce. Which version do you use? The French version? The Italian translation? Given the over four hour running time of the full version, where do you make cuts, and why? And once you answer those questions, there's the content to deal with. How do you pack in the opera's themes of love, war, betrayal, politics, and the Spanish Inquisition? The later question is one that Austin Lyric Opera's current production fails to answer. While Don Carlo is 3 hours and 30 minutes of aural bliss, the story is handled in a clumsy and sometimes unfortunate way.
