Iris Theatre are to bring Shakespeare and family entertainment back to the gardens of St Paul's Church, Covent Garden for their 6th annual summer season of open-air theatre right in the heart of London.

Shakespeare's political thriller Richard III will open on 25 June and run until 25 July. Press night: Monday 30 June at 7.30pm.

Lewis Carroll's Alice through the Looking Glass will open on 30 July and run to 30 August. Press night: Monday 4 August at 7.00pm.

Iris Theatre's Artistic Director Daniel Winder, unveiling his 2014 season, said: "With the recent discovery of Richard III's skeleton under the tarmac of a Leicester car park, the story of Richard has never been more prominent in the public imagination. It is therefore a perfect time to present Shakespeare's Richard III; one of his most beguiling and magnetic Kings. In our open-air production, England's War of the Roses will be brought to one of London's busiest public spaces, and our audiences will be drawn deep into the heart of this dark and dangerous conspiracy."

Then in complete contrast, the company's new family show, Alice through the Looking Glass, will enter the magical world of Lewis Carroll's Wonderland in a production packed full of music and song.

Stepping through the surface of a magic mirror the audience will join Alice on a journey across a checkerboard world filled with fantastical creatures and talking flowers, encountering friends, old and new including the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, the Lion and the Unicorn, and Tweedledum & Tweedledee. But Alice also has to face the fearsome Jabberwocky... Alice through the Looking Glass has been adapted by the writing team of Daniel Winder and Candida Calidcot, who also created 2013's smash hit Alice in Wonderland.

Cast to be announced.
