Musician-Led Ensemble Palaver Strings Drops Album Featuring Female Composers

Musician-led ensemble Palaver Strings today releases its new album of music by diverse female composers, Ready or Not, on Azica Records. Works on the album include Grażyna Bacewicz’s Concerto for String Orchestra; Non può il mio cuore by Venetian singer, lutenist, and composer Maddalena Casulana; composer Barbara Strozzi’s madrigal Lagrime mie featuring a performance by mezzo-soprano Sophie Michaux; Chicago-based multi-genre composer, vocalist, pianist, and producer Akenya Seymour’s Fear the Lamb; and a set of fiddle tunes by two Portland-based fiddlers, Liz Knowles and Palaver’s own Elizabeth Moore.

The Dunes Summer Theatre is taking the 2021 Season outdoors, starting with 'Forever Plaid,' running June 4-20 (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays), 6-7:30 p.m. CDT. Performances at the theatre, 288 Shady Oak Drive in Michigan City, are free and audiences are limited to 50 persons. Advance reservations are required and donations are welcome.

Passim announced that it will host a new music series in partnership with Revels, the beloved non-profit that presents The Christmas Revels every year in Cambridge. Revels FRINGE at Club Passim will bring an eclectic mixture of musicians to the famous Harvard Square club. Each show will be a unique experience blending styles and instruments from around the Globe to explore the unpredictable edge of the folk process. The Revels FRINGE series at Club Passim kicks off on February 14th and will run monthly through May.

In celebration of outstanding achievement in high school musical theatre performances, Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce the award recipients of the Eighth Annual Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards (IHSMTA) sponsored by NBC 5: Jacob Simon of Deerfield, IL (Deerfield High School) as BEST ACTOR for his portrayal of Bobby Child in CRAZY FOR YOU and Marguerite Reed of Palos Park, IL (Mother McAuley High School) as BEST ACTRESS for her portrayal of Betty Haynes in IRVING BERLIN'S WHITE CHRISTMAS. Jacob and Marguerite will represent the state of Illinois at The Jimmy Awards (also known as The National High School Musical Theatre Awards ) in New York on June 24, 2019.
