Minn Orch Releases Recording Of Mahler's 8th Symphony in December

BIS Records will release a recording of Gustav Mahler's Eighth Symphony. Recorded under the direction of Osmo Vänskä, the Orchestra's music director from 2003 to 2022, the album marks the ninth and penultimate release in the Orchestra's years-long effort to perform and record all ten of the Romantic composer's symphonies.

Louis Cole’s album Quality Over Opinion (Brainfeeder) has been nominated for Best Alternative Jazz Album at the upcoming 66th annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place on Monday February 5th, 2024. 20 tracks deep, Quality Over Opinion was written, performed and produced on his own.

Last night’s performance consisted of a rendition of Francis Poulenc’s Figure humaine by the BBC Singers, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra tackling Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 9. A fitting pairing for something of a bittersweet evening, as it brings together words from the French Resistance and a tragic farewell from one of the foremost Romantic composers - Sir Simon Rattle conducted both pieces with aplomb.
