Lyric Opera of Kansas City continues its 60th season with the Italian classic Rigoletto, with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. Performances are March 3, 7, 9 and 11 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The production will be sung in Italian with English titles. Verdi's grand opera Les Vepres siciliennes will be conducted by Omer Meir Wellber, who, following Mefistofele (2015) and Andrea Chenier (2017), will now command his third Staatsoper premiere. Antu Romero Nunes, who audiences will already know from his interpretation of Rossini's Guillaume Tell (2014, Munich Opera Festival), returns to Munich for this premiere.

Sarasota Opera Announces 60th Festival Season

Sarasota Opera will celebrate its 60th anniversary season in 2018/2019 as it announced today at a press conference held on the main stage of the Sarasota Opera House in Sarasota, FL. The event was overseen by Maestro Victor DeRenzi, artistic director and principal conductor, and Richard Russell, Executive Director. Performances were offered by soprano Kara Shay Thomson who sang "In questa reggia" from Puccini's Turandot and bass Young Bok Kim who sang "La calunnia" from Rossini's The Barber of Seville. In addition, the audience participated in a community sing of the famous chorus "Va, pensiero" from Verdi's Nabucco.

Washington National Opera (WNO), led by Artistic Director Francesca Zambello, announces its 2018-2019 season, one that continues its focus on bold productions of classic operas, fascinating contemporary perspectives, and the best in American artistry. The season includes a new WNO production of Verdi's classic romantic drama La traviata, the company premiere of Kevin Puts's and Mark Campbell's Pulitzer Prize-winning Silent Night, Tchaikovsky's epic Eugene Onegin, Gounod's devilishly entertaining Faust, and Puccini's towering masterpiece Tosca. The season also features a weekend of four world premieres during the American Opera Initiative Festival; a revival of WNO's hit world-premiere holiday family opera The Lion, the Unicorn, and Me; a special Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist performance of La traviata; and other exciting vocal events, including the annual Mars, lnc.'s Opera in the Outfield.
