BWW Review: SINGIN' IN THE RAIN at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre
by Rich Mehrenberg
- Feb 26, 2022
Let me answer the big question right off the bat...does it actually rain, on stage, in Dutch Apple's production of Singin' in the Rain? You bet it does! Through a combination of twinkling lights and a very effective sprinkler system, actor Alex Fullerton gleefully taps. skips, and twirls throughout a spectacular downpour. Fullerton looked like he was having a lot of fun stomping through puddles, and it puts the audience in cheerful spirits for the show's intermission.

Nightcrawlers (NY Premiere) is a moody piece showcasing three couples in hot pursuit filled with passion, drama, and stunning choreography by Peter Anastos. The performance is as uproariously funny as it is dazzling to watch, they fling themselves at each other, swap partners, fly through the air, trot like a pony, and are swept across the floor.

BWW Review: My Desert Island (and 92nd St. Y) All-Time Dream Team " Brownlee, Spyres and Rossini
by Richard Sasanow
- Oct 30, 2021
Oh, sure, give us Missy Mazzoli, Nico Muhly, Laura Kaminsky, Kevin Puts, Terence Blanchard, Paul Moravec, Huang Ruo and all the other fabulous composers at work today. But let’s talk about Rossini--and it’s hard for anyone who attended the concert the other night at New York’s 92nd Street Y not to. With tenor Lawrence Brownlee, (bari)tenor Michael Spyres and pianist Myra Huang presenting us with a dizzying array of what Brownlee called “barnburner pieces, back to back,” there was not much more to do than stand up and scream for more.

The story follows Jerry Travers, a Broadway star in his prime, who travels to England and falls for the society beauty Dale Tremont. Dale is not initially taken with him, but with a little charm, Jerry gets his girl. However, it is less than plain sailing after Dale mistakes him for Jerry's own manager Horace Hardwick, who is married to her friend, and subsequent mayhem ensues.
