Photo Coverage: Haley Swindal Brings GOLDEN GIRL to Feinstein's/54 Below
by Stephen Sorokoff - May 31, 2017

If you know Haley Swindal's pedigree you will understand why I will refrain from commenting that her show 'knocked it out of the park'. I will also not say she swung and sung for the fences and hit a home run.  I will resist the temptation to say that 'Team Haley' went to it's talented bench to put together the winning combination of Tedd Firth musical director and Will Nunziata, concert director (who conceived the show).  However I will say that her grandfather George Steinbrenner, who in addition to being 'The Boss' of the New York Yankees, loved music and had a passion for Broadway.  He would have been giving a standing ovation (with the rest of the crowd) to Haley Swindal at the conclusion of her ground breaking new show titled Golden Girl at Feinstein's/54 Below last night.

Photo Coverage: HAZEL Presented at The Madison Theatre at Molloy College
by Stephen Sorokoff - Jan 29, 2017

HAZEL "A Musical Maid In America" was extremely vetted at The Madison Theatre at Molloy College last night.  The sweet show about that irrepressible maid from the 1960s Emmy Award-winning television series has music by Ron Abel, lyrics by Chuck Steffan and book by Lissa Levin.  As HAZEL climbs the creative ladder on it's way to NYC it gave some very professional theatre majors at Molloy College a chance to perform in a staged reading along side HAZEL's star Klea Blackhurst and a full compliment of musicians. Angelo Fraboni the artistic director and producer at the Madison Theatre cleaned up with all the accolades as Long Island theatre goers were swept up in the fun and tender story of HAZEL . The only place this musical should be deported to is Broadway.

Ian Finkel, the World's Greatest Xylophonist and Elliot Finkel, concert pianist extraordinaire offered a first-hand account of the incredible career of their father Fyvush Finkel last night in a touching memorial at the Metropolitan Room.  Fyvush had been performing in English and Yiddish roles for nine decades before his passing this summer.  His last engagement was at Mr. Finn's Cabaret in the Berkshires, and he had invited the cheering audience at the end of the show to come to his  94th birthday celebration on Oct 9th at the Metropolitan Room.  The evening instead was celebration of his life on stage with the performances by family and friends performing his songs, stories, and jokes.  To quote one of Fyvush's jokes, if he were present he would have opened the evening by saying, "I'm celebrating my 94th birthday today!"  after the applause died down he would then look around and  continue…."but I realize looking at this audience, it's no big deal!"
