WP Theater Announces 2020-2021 Season

Dance Now Announces Lineup For 2019 Festival Encore, September 26

DANCE NOW announces the lineup for the 2019 Festival ENCORE! The one-night-only performance will feature the 10 choreographers/companies selected by the DANCE NOW producers for having most successfully met the 2019 DANCE NOW Challenge: to create a clear and complete artistic statement in five minutes or less for the specifics of the stage at Joe's Pub. This year's Challenge winner is Nicole Vaughan-Diaz. As the Challenge winner, Vaughan-Diaz will receive a $1,500 stipend and a weeklong creative residency at DANCE NOW Silo on Kirkland Farm in Bucks County, PA. The ENCORE! program will be hosted by Deborah Lohse (aka TruDee).

Jacob's Pillow Announces Record-Breaking Ticket Sales In Festival & Outlines Offerings Of Fall/Winter Season

One month after the close of its 86th season, Jacob's Pillow announces record-breaking ticket sales for its acclaimed summer dance festival. The organization reports over $2.5 million in ticket sales, an increase of 13% when compared with 2017; over 40,000 tickets were sold, an increase of 5%, when compared with last year. The season boasts 10,000 unique ticket buyers, an increase of 8% and the largest number since the organization began tracking this particular indicator in 2005.

The Color Purple is the Tony Award-winning musical revival based upon the novel written by Alice Walker and the Warner Bros./Amblin Entertainment motion picture with a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. Cast members from the 2015 Broadway revival lead the Paper Mill Playhouse company, including Adrianna Hicks (Aladdin, Sister Act - Germany) as Celie, Carla R. Stewart (Ghost - National Tour, Rent - Regional) as Shug Avery and Carrie Compere (Holler If You Hear Me, Shrek the Musical - National Tour) as Sofia.

Velocity Presents THE MIDSUMMER

Velocity Dance Center and the gray are thrilled to announce the world premiere of The Midsummer, running Oct 19-21 at Velocity's Founder's Theater. The gray is a brand new dance company in Seattle, and for its inaugural piece, artistic director and choreographer Beth Terwilleger has curated a stellar artistic team that features dancers from Seattle gems Whim W'him, Evoke Productions, The Three Yells, and Coriolis Dance among others. A veritable feminist powerhouse, this female-choreographed experimental ballet work is also scored with original music by the critically acclaimed cellist and composer Julia Kent.
