The Jungle Book, a short play based on the classic stories by Rudyard Kipling, is Roanoke's very own Mill Mountain Theatre's summer outreach production, taking live theatre to unconventional settings, including parks and libraries. This production feature's MMT's 2017 Summer Apprentice Company. I was lucky enough to sit down with the director and adaptor of the well-known tale to hear about the process creating this new play and learn more about how Mill Mountain Theatre is spreading the gift of theatre across Roanoke, for free. Sharon Playhouse has announced complete casting for its 2017 Season. The season kicks off with MINOR CHARACTER: SIX TRANSLATIONS OF UNCLE VANYA, created by New Saloon (Morgan Green, Madeline Wise, and Milo Cramer), followed by FAR AWAY by Caryl Churchill (Love and Information). The season will conclude with a new, intimate chamber production of Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN. In a shift that begins this season, Morgan Green (William Shakespeare's Mom) will direct all three productions, showcasing the talents and range of the rising director. (more...)

The Tank (Rosalind Grush and Meghan Finn, co-artistic directors) is thrilled to present the world premiere of Franz Kafka's A HUNGER ARTIST, adapted from Kafka's story by Sinking Ship Productions, created collaboratively by performer Jonathan Levin, writer Josh Luxenberg, and director Joshua William Gelb. Part of The Tank's Flint & Tinder series, A HUNGER ARTIST begins performances on Thursday, June 1 for a limited engagement through Friday, June 27.  Press Opening is Wednesday, June 7 at 8 PM.
