The Old Globe presents West Coast premiere of Little Women by Kate Hamill. This brand-new version of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel about Jo March and her three unforgettably distinct sisters is presented in association with Dallas Theater Center and is directed by Sarah Rasmussen (Artistic Director of Jungle Theater, which originally commissioned the play).
Many American theater-goers have either read Little Women in High School, or seen the play, musical, or recent star-studded film. When staging this show, the challenge therefore becomes- how do you keep it fresh and original? Luckily for us, Dallas Theater Center has never had a problem with a lack of creativity, and they didn't start with this production of Little Women!

Penobscot Theatre Company is proud to present The Grand Tour Plays The Highwaymen: A Tribute to Willie, Waylon, Johnny and Kris, February 23-25. Frequently referred to as 'the Mount Rushmore of country music,' The Highwaymen was American country music's first bona fide supergroup, an epic quartet of outlaw country's pioneering stars. Celebrating their impact is the same band the company engaged to pay toe-tapping tribute to George Jones in 2016: The Grand Tour, led by guitarist and vocalist Larry Tobias of New York City and featuring Andrew Crowe, who last graced the Bangor Opera House stage in Rock of Ages (2016) and previously starred in Duck Hunter Shoots Angel (2016) and Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash (2015).

In an impassioned, almost poetic adaptation of Charles Dickens' masterpiece Great Expectations, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (MCT) opened Gale Childs Daly's evocative interpretation in the Cabot Theatre last weekend. Composer Andrew Crowe, premier violinist, added an original score to haunt and mesmerize audiences sitting in the theatre as he waltzed through every scene. Daly's adaptation literally leaps off the pages of the 1861 novel, and the cast under Director Molly Rhode incorporates actual books as props for meat pies or rhythm instruments to miraculous effect each step of the way through the main character Pip's coming of age and maturation.

Set during a period of great turmoil just prior to the Russian revolution (1905), FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is a joyous celebration of life in times of uncertainty. Most versions I've seen have been scaled down considerably, focusing on the more intimate scenes. That's certainly not the case here. The MUNY's spectacular production gives us the full breadth and scope of Joseph Stein, Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock's thoughtful and heart warming take on themes of family and tradition. Anchored by a particularly strong cast and top notch staging this, is quite simply, perfection!
Footage of opening night of Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick's, Fiddler on the Roof, at The Muny in St. Louis, MO, featuring a previously unheard song by the show's composers!
The Muny announced today the complete cast for its production of Fiddler on the Roof directed by Gary Griffin, choreographed by Alex Sanchez and music directed by Brad Haak.
