Rui Rita has been nominated for several awards for his outstanding lighting design work in various productions. These include nominations for Outstanding Lighting Design, Resident Production at the Helen Hayes Awards for "The Laramie Project" and "Meet John Doe." He was also nominated for Outstanding Lighting Design at The Lortels for "The Piano Lesson" and "The Orphans' Home Cycle." Additionally, Rita received a nomination for Notable Effects - Production Design, Lighting at The Hewes Awards for "The Orphans' Home Cycle," a nomination for Lighting Design at the Obie Awards for "Engaged," and a nomination for Outstanding Lighting Design at the Outer Critics Circle Awards for "Enchanted April."
