Leonard Bernstein's masterpiece, Candide, is back in Vienna for a strictly limited run. Based on Voltaire's 18th-century novel, Bernstein created a so-called comic operetta, or as some might say, a musical in an old-fashioned way. You may call it whatever you want. At the end of the evening, it is a beautifully crafted piece of art.

York's show (and tell!) virtual cast reunion series continues tonight, October 19th at 7pm with Taking a Chance on Love. The event will feature Erik Haagensen (deviser), Jeff Smith (music director/arranger), Joe McConnell (casting director), and cast members Terry Burrell, Jerry Dixon, Donna English, and Eddie Korbich

The York Theater Company presents an evening of musical theater, featuring material from three shows they are helping to develop.

The York Theatre Company welcomed specials guests Richard Maltby, Jr., Edward Hibbert, Bill Condon, original cast member and choreographer Dan Siretta, and member from the London John Barry Foundation to a recent performance of the 25th Anniversary Musicals in Mufti presentation of  the NY premiere of Lolita, My Love, with music by John Barry and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, as edited by Erik Haagensen.  Directed by Emily Maltby and with music direction by Deniz Cordell, the 13-member cast features George Abud (The Band's Visit)as Clare Quilty, Caitlin Cohn (The Secret Garden) as Dolores "Lolita" Haze, Robert Sella (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) as Humbert Humbert, Thursday Farrar (Aida) as Dr. June Ray, and Jessica Tyler Wright (Sweeney Todd) as Charlotte Haze, with Becca Fox (Singin' in the Rain), Hanako Greensmith (Spring Awakening), Victoria Huston-Elem (Finding Neverland), Jay Aubrey Jones (Assassins), Kennedy Kanagawa (Into the Woods), Max Meyers (Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story), Mark Montague (A Very Brady Musical), and Analise Scarpaci (Matilda, The Musical).

In his indispensable history of Broadway's less-successful musical ventures, 'Not Since Carrie,' Ken Mandelbaum famously wrote that bookwriter/lyricist Alan Jay Lerner and composer John Barry's effort to bring Vladimir Nabokov's controversial novel 'Lolita' to the stage 'has the singular distinction of being both a complete mistake and a superb adaptation.'

The York Theatre Company concludes its 25th Anniversary of its acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series celebrating the work of the legendary librettist and lyricist Alan Jay Lerner with the third show in the 2019 Winter series the NY premiere of the Lolita, My Love, with music by John Barry and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, as edited by Erik Haagensen. The series honors one of the creators behind such classics as Brigadoon, Camelot, Love Life, and My Fair Lady.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, will present a return engagement of the hit Off-Broadway musical, Enter Laughing: The Musical with book by Joseph Stein, music and lyrics by Stan Daniels, based on the play Enter Laughing by Joseph Stein from the novel by Carl Reiner, produced in association with Riki Kane Larimer and Alene Daniels. Enter Laughing: The Musical returns to kick off The York's year-long 50th Anniversary Celebration at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Opening the 2019 winter series is Carmelina, with music by Burton Lane, lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, additional lyrics by Barry Harman, and book by Joseph Stein and Alan Jay Lerner. Performances began Saturday afternoon, January 26, 2019 and continue for 11 performances only through February 3, 2019. The show officially opened last night and BroadwayWorld was there.
