Opera Ithaca announced today that Benjamin Robinson has been engaged as its Artistic Director beginning with its 2019-2020 season. Currently Artistic Director of Raylynmor Opera in Keene, New Hampshire, a position he will retain, Robinson is an experienced opera administrator, director, and singer. Also an educator, he is a Lecturer in Voice at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.

Opera Ithaca has announced that Zachary James, Founder and General Director of Opera Ithaca, has stepped down from his position. Opera Ithaca has planned a national search for the vacant position while Artistic Director Lynn Craver and Board of Directors Treasurer Dan Taylor will run the company in the interim. Opera Ithaca's previously announced 5th season will continue as scheduled with James returning to the company to direct Hamlet and sing Carl Magnus in a Little Night Music.

Opera Ithaca announces their 5th season since the company's founding in 2014. The 2018/2019 season will include Hamlet, A Little Night Music, La bohème and a double bill of Francesca Caccini's Liberation (La Liberazione di Ruggiero) and the world premiere of Kamala Sankaram and Rob Handel's Enchantress.

An Evening with Mavis Staples and Special Guests pairs Staples with some of her most notable collaborators: singer-songwriter Neko Case, multi-instrumentalist Bruce Hornsby, and bluegrass-county artist Alison Krauss. Together, they will lead guests through Staples's 60-plus year catalog of genre-defying contributions to American music, including many seminal works that have woven her into the very fabric of gospel, soul, folk pop, R&B, Hip Hop, blues, and rock. The event is chaired by Frances and Craig Lindner.

Actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, who is most famously known for his portrayal of Lt. Dan Taylor in the landmark filmForrest Gump,was announced today as the 2018 Tournament of Roses Grand Marshal.

Director Chris McLaurin makes a particularly auspicious debut at the helm of his rollicking - and beautifully sung and winningly staged - production of Gilbert and Sullivan's classic The Pirates of Penzance, now playing at Murfreesboro's Center for the Arts through August 27. Charming and engaging, McLaurin's Pirates hews closely to the comic opera's original production (the only one of Gilbert and Sullivan's works to actually have its initial staging on Broadway - in 1879), testament to the libretto's timelessness and its refreshingly contemporary humor.
