Orlando Shakespeare Theater to Present RAPUNZEL, 6/19-7/27
Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF will present a hilarious retelling of the classic fairy tale Rapunzel from June 19 - July 27, 2014. Based on the story by The Brothers Grimm, Orlando Shakes actor/playwright Brandon Roberts returns with another family-friendly adaptation after past summer hits Sleeping Beauty (2013) and Cinderella (2012). Complete with a brave princess, a clueless king, and a magical plunger, audiences of all ages will enjoy this silly production, presented in the intimate Goldman Theater. An evil enchantress forces a young couple to give up their beloved baby girl forever. The witch shuts her away in a lonely tower, but as Rapunzel grows -- so does her long golden hair! "Brandon Roberts has created another fresh take on a classic story for us this summer," said Artistic Director Jim Helsinger. "Audiences both young and old will find themselves laughing out loud at this fun new spin on Rapunzel! Due to popular demand, we've even added an additional weekday performance on Wednesdays at 2 p.m."
Rapunzel features actors Jayne Claire (as Rapunzel), Will Hagaman, Amanda Leakey, and Jeffrey Todd Parrott. The Orlando Shakes production team includes Director Brad DePlanche, Set Designer Kurt Bippert, Lighting Designer Holly Stallard, Costume Designer Denise R. Warner, and Sound Designer George Hamrah.
