Orlando Shakespeare Theater Sets 2015-16 'All The World's A Stage' Classes

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF is proud to announce its lineup of educational youth classes available this Fall 2015, Winter 2016, and Spring 2016. Each of the Theater's All the World's a Stage classes focus on skill sets that benefit students in everyday life, as well as on stage.

"This year's lineup of classes is unique in that lessons are based around the same plays that are being featured as professional productions on stage at Orlando Shakes," said Director of Education Anne Hering. "Students will explore new worlds with Jack and Annie, adventure with Peter Pan and Wendy, and embody the zany characters of Monty Python."

FALL SESSION (September 26 - October 31, 2015)

Second Star to the Right-Age 4 - Grade 1

Students learn the basics of story structure and explore the "Actor's Toolbox" of voice, body, and imagination as they bring the beloved characters of Peter Pan to life on stage.

Jack & Annie to the Stage!-Grades 2-4

Students act out scenes from Magic Tree House: A Ghost Tale for Mr. Dickens using storytelling, active listening, and ensemble skills.

And So Our Story Begins...-Grades 5-7

Students act out scenes from Peter and the Starcatcher, the swashbuckling prequel to Peter Pan, honing their theatrical skills and discovering the value of hard work along the way.

I'm Not Dead, Yet!-Grades 8-12

Students explore acting techniques through the zany world of Monty Python and perform scenes that inspired their hit musical, Monty Python's SPAMALOT.


WINTER SESSION (January 23 - February 27, 2016)

Fairies & Goblins-Age 4 - Grade 1
Students act out scenes from Shakespeare's The Tempest and explore enchanted lands with their favorite fairies and goblins!

Story Songs-Grades 2-4
Students explore dream worlds through the world of story songs, creating their own musical inspired by Shakespeare's lyrical classic, The Tempest.

Clowns & Commedia-Grades 5-7
Students bring their inner clown to life by learning basic juggling skills and the classic art of Commedia, rehearsing physical comedy, and diving into comedic Shakespearean scenes.

Come, Sir, Your Passado-Grades 8-12
Students learn basic stage combat to strengthen their classical and contemporary performance skills while exploring the text of Shakespeare's Pericles.


SPRING SESSION (March 26 - April 30, 2016)

Elephant and Piggie: We Are in a Shakespeare Play!-Age 4 - Grade 1
Students explore the "Actor's Toolbox" of voice, body, and imagination with their favorite characters from Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie series.

Comedy, Tonight!-Grades 2-4
Students study clues found in William Shakespeare's comedies to uncover the humor in his words and situations.

What's Your Tragedy?-Grades 5-7
Students are assigned short speeches from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Othello, learning how to paraphrase as a tool for memorization and acting.

His "Stories"-Grades 8-12
Students dive into short speeches and scenes from Shakespeare's most famous histories including Henry V and Richard III.

All Youth Class sessions meet on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., and run for six weeks. Every session culminates in a presentation for friends and family on the last day, including a free continental breakfast for all guests. "Also coming this Fall, we're excited to partner with the Orlando Science Center and Orlando Museum of Art for a one-day Magic Tree House STEAM Camp that's not to be missed!" said Hering.

On Friday, October 23, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Loch Haven Park entities will unite in a new educational collaboration that will take students on a journey through time with the help of Magic Tree House's Jack and Annie. Students begin the day at the Orlando Science Center, where they'll explore the prehistoric world of the dinosaurs. After lunch, Orlando Shakespeare Theater will transport campers to Victorian England in a performance of Magic Tree House: A Ghost Tale for Mr. Dickens. Students will end the day at the Orlando Museum of Art, as they explore artwork from the American Colonial period.
