La MaMa Presents Erosion: A Fable by Loom Ensemble 2/17-26

La MaMa and World In One Pan Arts Collaborative is set to present Loom Ensemble's World Premiere of Erosion: A Fable, directed by Tomi Tsunoda, written by the ensemble and choreographed by Neva Cockrell, with original music composed by Sasha Bogdanowitsch.

Erosion: A Fable, part of La MaMa's 50th Anniversary season, runs from February 17 – 26, 2012 in a limited engagement at La MaMa (The Club), located at 74A East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and the Bowery in New York City.

Performances are Fridays at 10pm, Saturdays at 5:30pm and 10pm, and Sundays at 5:30pm.

About the show: "Erosion: A Fable takes a look at the familiar world of corporate desk jobs through a surprising aesthetic prism. A homeless woman and a mid-level office exec begin selling dirt on the street together, and calling it Love. But their best intentions take them far from where anyone would have guessed once the Dirt/Love craze goes global. Echoing dialogue sparked by Occupy Wall Street, Citizen's United and the global energy crisis, Erosion: A Fable uses Loom's signature palette of athletic dances, intricate vocal compositions and traditional storytelling techniques to stage this story of corporate competition, environmental catastrophe and personal transformation. The physical vocabulary of the show draws from modern dance, contact improvisation, acrobatics and capoeira angola. The show's original music is composed for voice, world instruments, original instruments and electronics, and incorporates vocal and musical styles from around the world."

Erosion: A Fable is performed by Zoe Anastassiou, Sasha Bogdanowitsch (Songs of Ascension at BAM), Andrew Broaddus, Neva Cockrell, Kate Hamilton (Stop The Virgens at St. Ann's Warehouse, Songs of Ascension at BAM), Helen Joyce, Mike O'Bauer and Raphael Sacks (Songs of Ascension at BAM).

The creative and design team includes Morgen Fleisig (Set Design), Kayla Goble (Lighting Design), Hannah Richey (Costume Design) and Katherine Pardue (Assistant Director).

About Loom: Loom is an interdisciplinary 10-person ensemble that weaves together full-body movement, dense vocal harmonies, and text-based storytelling to make lush, vibrant ensemble performances. At its core, their mission is to use equal parts dance, music and theater to nourish a sense of basic delight in their audiences, their artistic peers, and themselves. Last year, Loom toured New York City parks, with outdoor performances of their first full length show Every Body. Loom was founded through a series of workshops on collaborative play-development with the TEAM, Pig Iron and Siti Company. The company's four Co-Artistic Directors and founders are Sasha Bogdanowitsch, Neva Cockrell, Mike O'Bauer and Raphael Sacks.

Director Tomi Tsunoda teaches at NYU's Playwrights Horizons Theatre School and Vassar College's Powerhouse Apprentice Program. Her writing has been published in Pindeldyboz and Dark Penguin, and she has worked with artists such as Gordon Dahlquist, Elizabeth Swados, Walter Thompson and Estelle Parsons.

Sasha Bogdanowitsch is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer whose work draws on influences and techniques from contemporary new music, world music, early music and popular music. Neva Cockrell's choreography is characterized by highly physical movement, partnering, floor work and acrobatics. She recently returned from a 7-city tour to India with ANIKAI Dance and is currently dancing with Kinesis Project and Gehring Dance Theatre. Cockrell is a graduate of Oberlin College.

Raphael Sacks has sung at BAM with Meredith Monk in Songs of Ascension, at Lincoln Center with Urban Research Theater in Theatricale, and internationally with the English National Opera in London, and other music-theater performances in Sweden, The Netherlands and Italy. Sacks is a graduate of Oberlin College.

Mike O'Bauer holds a BFA in drama from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
