Harlem Repertory Theatre Presents DREAMGIRLS, 8/17-9/15 & 10/5-21

July 7
9:24 AM 2012

The Harlem Repertory Theatre will present an intimate chamber version of DREAMGIRLS with a cast of 10 that will be performed in two separate theatre spaces in the heart of Harlem.

The twelve-time AUDELCO-nominated Harlem Repertory Theatre is opening its 2012 season with an intimate chamber version of the classic R&B musical drama, DREAMGIRLS. Ten talented actor/singers will bring this dazzling rags to riches story to life in two settings: Act One will be played in the Harlem Repertory Theatre Presents DREAMGIRLS, 8/17-9/15 & 10/5-21proscenium theatre at the 133rd Street Arts Center, while Act Two will be performed in the open loft space on the third floor of the same building.

Two-time AUDELCO winner, Keith Lee Grant, will direct and choreograph the production. Mr. Grant will shift the focus of this iconic musical from flashy sets and costumes to the moment-to-moment emotional development of the characters: from aspiring novices in the 1960s R&B music industry to highly polished – albeit somewhat jaded – international stars.

Although the HRT is staging this more realistic approach to DREAMGIRLS, Mr. Grant and his company will not lose sight of the show’s more glamorous aspects and crowd-pleasing theatrical elements: beautiful gowns, outstanding vocals and the energetic, astounding performances which are the hallmark of the HRT.
