Rebecca Habel Returns to Vineyard Theatre as Managing Director

The Vineyard Theatre has announced the appointment of Rebecca Habel as Managing Director of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning non-profit theatre company along with the news that Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell will now serve as Executive Producer as she begins her 15th season at The Vineyard.

Ms. Habel returns to The Vineyard, having previously served as the company's General Manager from 2003 - 2005, managing such Vineyard productions as the world-premiere of AVENUE Q, Paula Vogel's THE LONG CHRISTMAS RIDE HOME, Gina Gionfriddo's AFTER ASHLEY, Nicky Silver's BEAUTIFUL CHILD, Christopher Shinn's WHERE DO WE LIVE and the rock musical PEOPLE ARE WRONG. Since 2005, Ms. Habel was a General Manager for The Roundabout Theatre Company, first at The Laura Pels Theatre -- where she opened the company's Black Box Theatre Space -- and subsequently as the General Manager of the American Airlines Theatre, managing such Broadway productions as THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, MRS WARREN'S PROFESSION, EVERYDAY RAPTURE, PRESENT LAUGHTER, AFTER MISS JULIE, HEDDA GABLER, A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS,AND THE 39 STEPS.

Ms. Habel has also previously worked as an agent representing actors in film and television in San Francisco and has a Master's degree in Performing Arts Administration from New York University.

Ms. Garvey-Blackwell served as the company's Executive Director/External Affairs for several years before becoming the company's Executive Director in 2004. Some Vineyard productions produced during Ms. Garvey-Blackwell's tenure as Executive Director include THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, THE METAL CHILDREN, ABOY AND HIS SOUL, MIDDLETOWN, PICKED, WIG OUT!, THE SLUGBEARERS OF KAYROL ISLAND, [title of show] and THE PIANO TEACHER.

Ms. Garvey-Blackwell serves on the Board of Directors for The Union Square Partnership and was honored by that organization in 2007 for her years of service to the Union Square community.

Of Ms. Habel's return to The Vineyard, Ms. Garvey-Blackwell said, "I am thrilled, along with Doug Aibel our Artistic Director and our Board of Directors, that Rebecca is returning to the company where her career in the theatre in NYC began. We had always hoped we would have the opportunity to work together again. I am looking so forward to having her as a partner to manage
the operations of the theatre and help plan for its future. She is such a strong addition to a great management team and overall staff at The Vineyard right now."

Vineyard Artistic Director Douglas Aibel adds, "I'm delighted to welcome Rebecca Habel back to The Vineyard in this significant leadership position. She will be an invaluable asset to our company as we move forward, and we're so excited to have her here as our new Managing Director. Her return
coupled with Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell taking on a new leadership role as Executive Producer is great news for the company."
