Previews begin tonight, Friday, October 18 at 7:30 PM for the Playwrights Horizons World Premiere production of THE PATRON SAINT OF SEA MONSTERS, a new play by Blackburn Prize winner Marlane Meyer (The Chemistry of Change and Moe's Lucky Seven for PH; Etta Jenks).

Directed by two-time Obie Award winner Lisa Peterson (The Chemistry of Change for PH; An Iliad, Slavs!), the production has an Opening Night set for Tuesday, November 12 at 7PM and will play a limited engagement through Sunday evening, December 1 atPlaywrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

The production reunites Ms. Meyer and Ms. Peterson, who previously collaborated on The Chemistry of Change, a co-production for Playwrights Horizons and The Women's Project in 1998.

The cast features CAndy Buckley (Scandalous, Cabaret, Shockheaded Peter, View of the Dome), Obie Award winner Rob Campbell (Small Tragedy at PH; Translations, The Singing Forest, Him, Mad Forest), Laura Heisler (Kin, Doris to Darlene, People Be Heard at PH; Coram Boy), Haynes Thigpen (Our House at PH; Dead Accounts, Misalliance), Danny Wolohan (Off-Broadway debut) and Jacqueline Wright (LA Weekly Award, Best Actress for Clyt at Home).

Aubrey (Ms. Heisler), a very determined romantic, believes she's met her soul-mate in Calvin (Mr. Campbell), a boozing womanizer. But in this tilted, thoughtful comedy, true love is an even more tangled predicament. Peopled by an assortment of eccentrics, mystics and front porch philosophers, this new play from Marlane Meyer is a sweet polemic, an unexpected love story, and a deliciously cockeyed view of the sustaining - and destructive - power of belief.

The production features scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Russell Champa and sound design by Darron L West. Production Stage Manager is Marisa Levy.

WARNING: This production contains violence, profanity and mature situations, and may not be suitable for younger audiences.

THE PATRON SAINT OF SEA MONSTERS is the second production of the Playwrights Horizons 2013/2014 Season. It follows the critically-acclaimed Mr. Burns - A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY by Anne Washburn, with music by Obie Award winner Michael Friedman. Directed by Steve Cosson, the Obie Award-winning Artistic Director of The Civilians, the production just opened to rave reviews ("Downright brilliant," Ben Brantley, The New York Times) and immediately extended its limited engagement through this Sunday, October 20.
